Default Cold Start, Engine Noise, TSIB EG7027

Cold Start Engine Noise TSIB EG7027

My 07, GS 350 with 25k miles, caught it.

Does anyone know the details about this?

It looks like from other posts that they pull the heads off the engine. (new head gaskets in parts list)

There must be a problem with the camshaft gear, I'm wondering if it worth repairing, or live with it.

Any ideas on long term results from this problem? I hate to have a new motor torn down for some intermittent noise.
After all, sometimes the surgery causes more problems then the disease.

Thanks for your feed back.

The problem is that in time it is getting worth and worth. Did it, so far so good. Just ask if they already did it to make sure that you are not a guinea pig.

At 16K, I don't have a problem. If it surfaces, I will have it repaired without hesitation.

I hear it rarely , but it doesnt bother me to much. it last for 3 seconds. I have to admit I dont usually have the windows down when I start my car. I dont want damage to happen in the future, I will have them look at it

The heads don't come off the vehicle. Those are the valve cover gaskets. It would take a lot longer than 6 hrs to remove and reinstall the heads on this motor.

what I am hearing is no where near that loud. Its like a clicking noise for 2-3 seconds then it stops. I will consult with the service rep. My guy is solid. If its not going to do dmage I would rather not to open up a new motor

they take off the timing chain and everything they change out a cam gear or something like that its takes a really long time more than 6 hours about 8 plus its pretty hard thing its a personal thing to have it done... its ok if you don't and most dealership would rather not do it because its hard to do and the mechanics don't like doing it cause they lose money they only get paid for 6 but it takes a longer. Its not a recall so if you complain about it they will end up doing it for you.

they claim this causes no mechanical damage. ha yeah right??

it puzzles me that it doesn't do this when new.
the parts are probably not worn out, and everything is probably the same to the naked eye.
yet it makes this nasty sound after a few 10000 miles.

Does anybody have the actual copies of these TSB's? I've checked www.lexustsb.com but do not see it there.

My 07 is in the shop for this warranty repair as I type this... the sound started up around 15K miles and I now have 34K on the car. We thought it was some sort of exhaust or heat shield rattle a while back, but now with this TSB and some history of this noise at the dealer on other IS350 and GS350 motors, they knew what it was right away.

At least I have a 08 GS350 loaner for 2 days ;-)

(man I miss my XM radio & Ipod though.... LOL )
