Default TVD Malfunction message???

Turned the car off for a minute and restarted - message never came back. The TVD has had two drain and fills. Last drain/fill was a year ago. No weird sounds or fluid leaking. Should I be worried?

UPDATE: Called my local dealer and they told me they haven't heard of any GSFs or RCFs getting this message. The message came up after I had taken the car from normal/eco mode to sport/TVD track mode for a quick merge onto the freeway and then putting it back to normal/eco mode. Not sure if it's just a rare gremlin or what.

What codes are stored in the ECU? That will give you better insight.

I have seen a TVD DTC stored in another member's TVD ECU and the diagnostic response in the factory service manual was replace the TVD ECU. This was completely benign from the owner's perspective. Never saw the MIL or any other indication there was an issue with the TVD ECU, it just popped up on the screen during the ECU health check in Techstream. Interesting this actually showed up on screen as a problem.

Yes, it would be very valuable to see any DTCs related to this.

I got this once after I got the rear going sideways, I also had the safety features turn off by hold tc down for 4 sec. It went away and never came back. That was a year ago.

Check the connection in the trunk. The TVD module is there right next to where the jack is. Could have somehow unplugged itself, I got that same message when I unplugged it and forgot to plug it back in.

Checked the connections this morning. Not sure which one was the TVD module but everything was tight and snapped in place. Did some spirited driving today to see if it would flash a message but nothing.

Next oil change I’ll have my dealer check it out. Sounds like i could be replacing the ECU at most. Not sure what that’ll cost me (no warranty) but it’s better than a mechanical issue with the diff. Thanks guys.

I don't understand why the dealer feels the need to tell you this!
They should just take your car in and check it out.

I wouldn’t pay for the ECU to be changed if the error code was one time only. Could be software related.

Honestly I was shocked that the system appeared to be working fine, but had a hidden DTC and the only solution in the service manual was replace the ECU.

Hey I get this error too. Random, I turn off the car and turn it back on and it goes away. Last time it happened dealer said it might be because I changed the battery. Still happens sometime, I have to have them check it.

Thats interesting because I changed the battery about a month and a half ago before the message. Good to know!

I've changed the battery twice on the wife's car. First one at three years when it wasn't playing nicely, second one after two very bizarre start up experiences. Currently running Antigravity 30 Ah Group 24 unit (same as the IS F) and it has been flawless. I have not had any TVD DTCs, and I routinely run ECU health checks (because I can, and there are 42 ECUs in these cars) and the only DTC I ever see is telematics because we never signed up for Enform (and never will). If I had a TVD issue, I'd be the first to figure out what axles and differential are needed to put in an OS Giken spool just like the one in my IS F. I still like the Giken unit better than the TVD.

Update:

I have been in quarantine for the last 7 days, went to start the car today... dead.
Jump started it, and had this same message pop up. I knew it was a battery issue so I went straight to the dealer.
Replaced battery, all good now.

This is my 4th battery in my 4 years of ownership. Seriously?
