So this morning I was taking my son to school and my ride quality wasn’t the greatest. I didn’t hear any loud noises but it was super bouncy. I turned off the car to walk him in and then came back out and all of the sudden it got much better. My car is at 42500 miles so out of the factory bumper to bumper warranty. When I got home I checked all the shocks and saw this on the two rear shocks…..thoughts?
left rear shock
I've had this happen to me once where the car rides super rough and I think to myself "WTF is going on?". Next time I started it and drove it, it was back to it's normal ride quality. I have to wonder if the AVS was having issues that day.
That's what I would bet on for sure. Shocks don't heal themselves. When they go bad, they stay bad.
that’s what I was exactly thinking. My car did it again today on the way home from work. I disconnected the battery, maybe the ECU needs a reset. From my experience from a blown shock, usually you will hear loud noises when hitting a bump and the handling will get pretty sloppy. Not having those issues, although when hitting bump or road is bad, it’s a rough ride.
Quick update; Took the car to Lexus, they confirmed that both rear shocks were blown. What’s crazy is that the right rear only lasted 20k miles (had been replaced already). Lexus is fixing this out of goodwill since the car is right out of warranty. I was very surprised with the outcome, in a good way obviously. Service like this is why my wife and I will continue to buy Toyota/Lexus vehicles.
