Default gs300h intermittent starting problems

Hi everyone.
Greetings from Ireland.
I have an intermittent (and annoying) problem with my 2017 GS300H. Sometimes, randomly, when I try to start up to move away, all dashboard light illuminate but the car will not move.
It sometimes takes 8-10 attempts to get it to start-up, by switching the on/off button until it eventually starts up and moves away.
doesent happen every time, just now & again.

can anyone please advise as to the problem?

thanks.

I'm assuming you're having trouble when it's running off battery and not engine? You may want to post in the Hybrid part of the forum, we don't understand such black magic!

Hi there,
thanks for replying; yes I do think the problem arises when the car is trying to start from battery.
I will post in hybrid section and see if anyone can help, thanks.

You do realize despite it being a hybrid, the car still has a 12v battery that will age and needs to be replaced right?

Hi there,
Thanks for the replies; the hybrid battery was never changed, I didnt think it would need to be changed yet as the car is only 3 years old.
The 12v engine battery seems fine; again i dont think thats the problem either as the starting problem only happens now & again- if it were the 12v battery it would not work at all, right?

I also changed both keyfob batteries recently but that didnt solve the problem..

There is a 12V battery in your trunk, on the left side under the trunk mat/liner. While that 12V trunk battery is not what starts your vehicle, it is an auxiliary battery the provides power to the hybrid system/ECU/other electric components in your vehicle. I would get that battery load tested as a first step.

If the 12V battery is experiencing drainage, it could be the Network Gateway ECU. Here is the TSB on it: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...86305-5448.pdf
Some other relevant topics on it:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...50-2013-a.html
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...ery-drain.html

Not sure what else could it could be because this the first that I've read about the hybrid experiencing this. Please do share when you figure it out though!

Hope that helps somewhat,

~ Im2bz2p345

Edit - Oops, just read you're from Ireland. Some of my post might not apply, but good to look into the 12V auxiliary battery in your trunk.

You need to change the 12v battery in the trunk. It’s dying off and that’s why you are having these issues. Nothing wrong with the hybrid battery. My 12v battery failed after almost 7 years. In the USA it’s located on the driver side of trunk, just lift up floor panel cover.

Just test the 12v first. No need to speculate what is wrong.

Hi there,
Thanks for the advice everyone; I will have a look at the 12v battery in boot/trunk and get it tested to see how its holding up.

much appreciated,
Trevor.

If it's more than 4 or 5 years old I'd just change it anyways. These cars are too reliable to be brought down by an old battery
