Default Starting problem, very strange

Every so often when i go to start car, it acts like it usually does after i push in the start button, but then it does not go all the way through and turn the engine over. sometimes i have to try it 4 or 5 times before it finally works. any ideas? also, do you have to hold the button down until it turns over or just push it in and release. i'm taking it in to the dealer but just wanted some opinions on what it might be first. many thanks

The other day mine turned over for like 3-4 seconds before it started. I was thinking oh ****. I hope it doesn't ever do that again or progress to something worse.

Just wait for the green light, push and release. I've never had a problem with the engine not starting, even in near zero degree F weather.

Perhaps a dying key battery?

They only last a little over a year until you need them replaced...

It's no different than how you would start the car with a mechanical key--you turn the key all the way to start (hold the button) until you hear the engine turn over, which in a late model Toyota/Lexus, is just a couple of seconds.

Maybe you didn't hold the brake long enough, I realized you have to have the brake held throughout the entire time the engine is cranking or it'll just quit on you halfway.

Default Update - problem solved

I took it to the dealer, and it turns out that there was a short in the start button assembly. They replaced it and so far no more problems.

i had the same exact problem, only it would only do it early in the mornings. Still happens occasionally, dealer coudln't find anything wrong.

Tell me if you still have problems after they've replaced the button.

I went to the dealer for the exact same problem yesterday. They ran diagnostic tests and said no trouble codes show up. It might have been because of the extremely hot weather for the past few days??

I had this exact same problem today, replaced the battery thinking that was it, but now I'm not so sure. Today was extremely hot.

So Jewel and Sahara, you never did anything else to fix it? It just happens occasionally but not a big deal?
