Default Hub replacement?

I will be replacing the right front wheel hub (the subject of another recent post re: a spinning lug). Looking at the repair diagram, it appears to be straightforward (famous last words, hah!). My main concern is the torque spec of the axle nut, which is 247 ft/lbs. Can this R/R be done by hand, or is an air tool required? I have a medium-sized compressor, so I'm not sure it will be powerful enough. Anyone done this job? Anything tricks or pitfalls to watch for? Thanks!

Why not just replace the damaged stud?

I made a DIY using a ball joint tool to make the job easy:

1/2 inch drive torque wrenches usually go up to 250 ft/lb, that's the click type.

Assuming the OP has the same issue I had, the hub spline is stripped requiring a new hub. They're rather expensive too, I was quoted $900 AUD to have mine changed.

The spline on the hub is gone; no purchase for the stud, so it just spins. One tap with a hammer is all it takes to pop out the studs. One weak spot on this car is the lugs, which are ridiculously soft. This isn’t the first time I’ve had trouble.

I wish the lugs were soft, my lug stripped my spline out, whilst uncovering past sins. I couldn't believe the lug was made from stronger metal than the hub spline.
Assuming your other 4 are perfect, just glue it in place 😆

I find Toyotas lug nuts harder to seat properly in the rim than the acorn shape my last Honda had. But I guess these is some benefit to this lug design.

4+ on your statement that the lugs are hard. It's the nut and the hub itself (even more than the nut) that are soft. It took several minutes with a hack saw to cut through the stub of the lug. The spline on the hub was mirror smooth, and 2 other lugs felt like they were trying to spin when I was removing the wheel. Instead of continuing in reverse, I tightened until they snapped cleanly. Since the hub will be changed anyway (and I keep extra lugs in stock), that works better than the aggravation I experienced yesterday.

Are there any issues removing and replacing the hub, or is it just a matter of removing the axle nut and 4 bolts holding the hub in place (I've already loosened these a bit), sliding it off the axle, and reversing?

Any seals or lubricant to worry about?

Anyone know the size of the axle nut, and is the multi-faceted nut-type thing visible once the wheel is off the nut itself, or is this a cover for the nut underneath, like some cars have (although there is no cotter pin)?

I'll be getting the parts on Thursday, so I have some time to plan. As always, thanks!
