Looking for a reputable body shop in the tri-state (NY, NJ, PA) area that could do a bumper conversion. I have a 2014 FSport and looking to convert to the ‘16 bumper.
Hoping to find a shop that has already done it or that forum member has had worked done by with good results. Asked a few shops in my area Atlantic City, NJ and they all seem very skeptical about even trying it . The headlight portion and having to use part of the original bumper is apparently unheard of and too “risky” lol . Saw a few successful conversions here on the forum and made up my mind instead of possibly buying the new model.
Thanks in advance.
Hopefully you find some help. Im in Burlington county. I just did a f sport bumper swap on my 14 awd base.
2014 to 2016+ conversion is more of a custom job. Most body's shops are just interested in accident repair not custom work because they can't necessarily predict the man hours to give you an estimate. They rather do what they know instead of figuring out something new.
Your f-sport bumper is strait forward and mainly just involves paint and swapping bumpers/parts.
Honestly if I had a garage I'd buy a used 2016+ bumper and do the cut/graft work myself. Then once I get it to fit, have a body shop do the final finess to smooth out the rough edges and paint it. I would learn from the internet how to fuse plastic parts and mold bumper parts. It would be a fun project.
If anybody needs a 2013 lux bumper I have one in great shape been trying to sell for almost a year at this point I'd let anyone have it for $50.

That’s what I did on my ‘14 GS.
This is more of a custom job, and takes time to get it to line up.
My shop quoted the labor and paint for so cheap that I couldn’t pass it up.

So I found someone who is willing to do it but he is concerned about merging the 14 to 16 bumper to make the headlights fit. Basically he said that in order to merge both parts (old to new bumper) it would require using a lot “filler”. He warned me that its not the best thing due to the fact that when hit it can crack or weaken very easily.
Just wanted to ask if you knew what process they used to merge the bumpers on your car? Also if you were warned about the bumper being weaker due to the custom job? If you have hit/tapped your car with anything like a speed bump and if any damage?

My guy reinforced the back where it’s cut with fiberglass.
I’ll talk to him about reinforcing it with lots of fiberglass lol. I guess thats his biggest concern right now, me running to the shop a month later with the bumper cracked 😩 . Too many speed bumps and potholes in Jersey.
