Default 2016 Build Quality

So I currently am in the market for a 4th Gen GS350. I have an online membership to and noticed that the owner sanctification for 2016 was low. I know not much has changed from 2013 to present so I wonder why all model years were rated high with 2016 being the exception. 2016 was actually the year I was going to shop for since it has the updated front grill and I can pick one up for about 1/2 of original MSRP. CR flagged 2016 issue as minor engine and interior electronics. Any insight? Should I get 2015 or 2017 instead?

2016 Reliability = 3-5
2016 Owner Satisfaction 4-5 (76% would buy again)

I would have zero concerns about picking up a 2016.

Think 2016 was the first year for the 2GR-FKS engine in the GS instead of the 2GR-FSE. Maybe that's related to the minor engine issues that were reported in CR. Although I have not really seen many complaints about engine problems in this forum so far. I wouldn't be concerned about picking up a 2016 either, especially if it still has remaining warranty coverage left.

IMHO the choice should mostly be based off styling, features you want, etc. These cars are pretty bulettproof from 14+ . I like the way the 15 f-sport looked so that's what I settled on.

I would not be concerned either. Lexus Is utilizing this engine across many platforms and there’s been no widespread problems reported. Or if there were issues, I’m pretty sure the Lexus and Toyota boards would be plastered with complaints.

And as for CR, I take their surveys with a large dose of salt. I’d take their advice all day long on appliances, but cars and trucks? Car enthusiasts, like many members here, are a specialized breed, and don’t have the same concerns as most CR readers. CR readers complain about loud engine noise, touchy brakes and stiff suspension; we drivers tend to appreciate those characteristics not complain about them.

And its it’s the same for specialized products like televisions, cameras, audio, etc.; CR reviews product with the the average owner in mind, not enthusiasts.

Short answer... go buy the GS that you like. Any model year GS will be a superior buy, and you will not be disappointed!

Well that makes me feel a lot better. Thank you all. I know it's impossible to please everyone so I will take some reviews with a grain of salt. For example, I have an Acura RDX with the dual screens. Many reviewers find it confusing and annoying but I actually love having my NAV separate from my radio/climate controls etc and don't find it confusing at all. OK, maybe a little at first but after a few uses and learning the buttons, no biggie.

Good to know I can put a 2016 back on my list.

putting back on the list is great,

went i believe to a 8 speed auto as well in 2016 or 2017 and there were some that preferred the 6 speed

any lexus built in japan at the japanese plants is worth Gold,

jump on any good example, services in the color and options you enjoy and you will have a good experience.

good luck

^^ The 8 speed was added to RWD models for 2014. So those with the 6 speed would be the 2013 in RWD form, and all years of the AWD model.

We bought a CPO 2016 base...love it. The first 2 gears can be kinda jerky...almost feels like a 3 speed car..you feel the first 2 gears then the other 6 are smooth as silk.

The things I don't like are the mouse interface and no sunglasses holder like my mdx or our previous TL. Absolutely enjoy driving it and its looks.
