Default Black Pearl Emblems

This is a quick PSA about the black pearl emblems being sold on eBay. The plating on the emblems lasted only for a few months before it just pitted and started peeling off. My recommendation would be to get clear coat applied to it or some paint protection film. Otherwise it will not last you long. First picture is how it looked when I got it. The bottom two pictures after a few months of usage. It seems the seller bought the gold Lexus ones and painted the black pearl over it so the original gold color is starting to show. Last picture is the gold one I bought directly off him... I assume that won't have the issue since it's directly from Lexus and is the actual color... but I could be wrong.

Damn. I sprayed clear coat on it before installing but I still have the same issue...really don't wanna spend another $125 for an emblem.

Take a picture once you install the gold one!

Well, how about I ship you the gold for a $100 (includes shipping)? I'm not planning on using it, it's still bubble wrapped sitting in the box lol. I have been installing the radar cruise control so I have to use a special emblem. I got it in yesterday, see image below. Let me know if you want the gold one.

I'm gonna try to repaint it or live with it for now especially with winter coming. I'll let you know if anything changes. Thanks for the offer.

How hard has the install for the adaptive cruise control been? I would love it on mine.

Can't really gauge a difficulty level right now since I am still working on. I'll update the thread once I get some movement. But I have the entire dash disassembled right now, doing multiple projects at the same time.

Yikes, that seems pretty difficult. Looking forward to the new additions to the car though!

Thank you for this PSA. I just spent $184 on a few of the emblems. The finish is a little scratched however still looks good. I'm going to put a thick ceramic coating on them.

The first thing you always do with these is to buy a 2k clear and clear the front emblem. The rear doesn't matter as much for protection, I did a 2k clear on my front when I got it after reading previous threads warning how it chips. After I did 2k clear, the emblem shows 0 wear after almost a year. It really protects it.

That ebay seller is buying OEM parts and getting them done. I did the same for my own emblem.
Here are the PN:
Garnish, Radiator GR: 53142-60011
Emblem, Symbol: 90975-02083
Nut, Spring: 90183-06044

You will need all those pieces and two nut, spring to hold it in place. Find a plating company near by that does plating on ABS and get it done in onyx chrome (which is black pearl chrome)
http://arlingtonplating.com/ is one. they are known to do black pearl for OEM: http://arlingtonplating.com/industries-served/automotive/oem/?oem=toyota
