Default 30K mile maintenance charges

I just feel like venting real quick. My Lexus dealership wants $450 for the 30k mile maintenance and the Toyota dealership wants $380. When I asked for a breakdown, Toyota is charging $40 for the multipoint inspection and $50 to measure my brake pads! Why are they charging for services that are normally free?

When I asked them to only quote me to replace the air filter, air conditioning filter, brake fluid, oil and oil filter, and tire rotation, Toyota comes out to $290 and Lexus comes out to $362. If you look at the remaining items on the list, I can't believe they are charging $90 for the rest.

I unfortunately don't know of any reputable independent shops. I bought the expensive car and I'll probably buy another expensive car from you later so why play these games?

Its the same thing at every stealership. Just be glad your not paying $500 for a BMW oil change. Yes, just an oil change.

You can/should replace the cabin and air filters yourself. Combined, they cost about $25 and can be changed, easily, in about 5 min's.

Just get oil change and replace the engine and cabin filters urself, save u tons of $$$. That's what I'm gonna do to mine. Oil change only at my Lexus dealer costs like $70 with coupon.

My last Camry had 50K miles and just oil changes every 5K (non synthetic) and still ran like new when I traded it in for the GS. Why spend $$$ if u don't need to? This is why we get a Toyota, good cars for cheap!

Yea, well.. the $100 is for every 10K too in Texas so I don't see much difference in TX vs CA.. Except a bunch on thieves in Cali..

So when you do not get the recall notice(s) because you bought it pre owned (and TSB's do not get
mailed at all) and something goes wrong you still saved the $80 right? Dealers routinely check
the system for seemingly unrelated repairs, 1) it's the right thing to do? 2) they get paid by Lexus?

You gotta find yourself a good independent mechanic. These "package" services are where dealers make their money, and the 30k service was when I stopped using the dealer with my 4GS and went back to my independent. I like the dealer experience, the loaners, the quality of the service and I will pay more for that, but not twice as much lol.

I called 4 dealers here. All were around $550 but one, that one was $650! My independent did all the work for about $250.

I bought the expensive car and I'll probably buy another expensive car from you later so why play these games?
Because the dealership makes more money from service than from selling you a car, and the people in the service department don't care if you buy new cars. Sales and service don't work together at a dealership. I should know, I used to consult with dealerships to help them generate service from sales and sales from service (years ago) and gave up because they just don't care lol

Some folks are hard up about bringing their rides to the dealership because of fear in lapse of warranty, quality issues, non-OEM parts used, yadda, yadda.

Don't be a chump, take it to your Indy for much less or just do it yourself.

If you look too you will find Lexus/Toyota specific independent mechanics. My guy was a master tech at a big Lexus dealer for 16 years, they use all OEM parts, etc.

And at the end of the day, if you want to use the dealer then godspeed...you just can't complain about the cost when you're deciding to use the most expensive option available.
