I believe there is an option for it in the display menu.

Its definitely in the main "display" options screen from your main menu screen (that lists setup/media/climate/phone etc.). "Display" on the top right of that screen and only gives you a few options, one of which is "day mode." If you turn that off your nav screen will enter night mode with headlights on.

I just went through this exact issue a few days ago.

Read page 332-333 of your owner's manual (I have a GS450h, so the page numbers may be a tad off, but it should be around there).

Here is the section that talks about it:

Hope this helps,

When I'm actually using Navigation at night I find the Night Mode is too dark...and much prefer the Day Mode. On the other hand, when I'm not actually using the Navigation system at night I find the Day Mode to be too bright...and much prefer the Night Mode. But, I don't like the idea of having to go into Display Setup to change the Day/Night Mode. I wish there was a simple yet effective way to just hit one button (somewhere - like on the NAV screen or steering wheel) to toggle from Day to Night Mode and visa-versa. Maybe Carista could add such a feature...

I believe the 'Day Mode' is only shown (accessible) on the Display screen when the headlights are turned On. In other words, you must have the headlights turned On for the Day Mode icon to show on the screen. Then, you will be able to set it so that it changes at night when the ambient light is low.
