well. I finally landed the new job and is time to upgrade..
I shopped around the bay area and found a few.. but there was this one particular one was low mileage. it had about 26k miles and is an 2013.. is an F sport but they are asking $37k for it.. I tried negotiating down to $33k out the door but didn't didn't bite..
now the question is, should i counter offer or should i consider another dealer? I'm looking to purchase in the bay area since are the ones around the capitol are asking $6k more than the bay area.
any SF Bay area dealer you guys recommend?

OP I work for car business
no dealer is going to put a price online that they can discount by $7,000 dollars - which is what your offer was.
The markup on most used cars is around 1500-3000 dollars and they're not going to give all of that away because they're in the business to make money.

Yea I think it's a bit much to ask $33k out the door. Not sure if you live in the Bay Area as well but if you do, sales tax there is already in the 9%. That's huge chunk of the $33k.
I have dealt with Serramonte Lexus and they was great. However, it wasn't for a GS model. Good luck with your search.

Yea he's asking for 7 or 8,000 off
I've never seen a dealership be willing to discount a used car by more than a 1,000 to 1,500 dollars. Once in a great while, I've seen 2,000 to 2,500 dollar discounts on a car with gigantic markup - we once had a few Toyota Highlanders that we got dirt cheap so they were marked up 5 - 7,000 dollars. They were willing to discount those 2000 or so but it's not very common. Very few used cars have anywhere near that much markup
If you're looking for a car that's already priced very cheap for the market, generally speaking they'll be pretty firm on it because they understand what they have - 300 or 500 dollars off is a significant discount in that case.

If you can get it for 36, I think that's a pretty good deal

An AWD 2013 GS F sport with anything b/w 30-45k miles can be had in the northeast for between $35-$37k. There is often only a couple hundred dollars up to a thousand of wiggle room in the actual price.
I recently traded in my '11 IS350 and got $23,000 for it. The dealer then listed it for around $27,500 and it sold within two weeks after i traded it in. So the markup is generally 3-4 thousand as another poster mentioned.
It will be difficult to get them to go thousands down on the price. If you can get it for anything close to $36k all in, you'd be in great shape in terms of price.

I wrote them another email with my final offer @ $35k. the trade in value of the one I'm looking is @ $31k.. with them marking up close to $37k, that's a hard pill to swallow. an $6k mark up + tax. I be in the $40k mark.. I've contact Fremont Lexus and they have an black f sports on their lot asking $38k. Most of the bay area dealer doesn't have much f sports that are cpo. I have been looking for the past 2 weeks and the $37k one is the one i like the most. I really don't want a German luxury car, they are nice don't get my wrong but when they break.. is an arm and an leg.
I looked at serrmanote and they don't have the f sport I'm looking for. in the $37k price range, that's used e63 price range territory. I don't want an IS series.. they are too tiny. being 6'1. I need something bigger.
found this the other day..

but is been sold..
there are gs350 f sports selling @ $34k with low miles.

if the window price is $37k, i think you'd be able to get it for 35k out the door. I don't know how dealers in Norcal are. my dealer was asking for $41k before tax and license and I was able to get it for $38k out the door. I don't think email offers really put too much pressure on them either.
I think will have to make a trip this week and finalise the negotiation. I think you have to be there physically to put pressure on them. Hopefully, with the final email, they would take the bite.
Paying $35k for an used car might be on the heavier side but with it being cpo. Is worth the extra $$
Dphuh626, what did you do to get it at $38k out the door?

Well you gotta keep your options open. Go in and haggle. They'll give you a price that includes tax and license. Then you make an offer, they counter, you counter. If they don't bite, walk. The sales guy might tell you that he'll try a last time with his manager. If he has you sign that your final offer is $XXXX, 90% sure you'll get it. Most dealers are trying to get rid of old inventory so they can stock up on new cars. At least that's what I believe from my experience. Good luck. The 4GS is great!
I'm going there this weekend. figure with the 2016's coming in, they would slash prices to make room for the new ones.. Fremont is slashing $6k off their new ones.. why can't marin budge with their CPO's?
