This weekend I noticed the LED lighting coming from under the wood strips on the doors. Nice touch. I guess I haven't driven enough at night in the past year, either that or I am slow.
Yep . . . . . . you are not alone. This went unnoticed by me for a while as well. Slick touch. I still think the accessory lighting could be a little brighter WITHOUT modification. I know, this has been talked about before on another thread. Just saying!
One of my favorite luxury features of this car... To me, it's what separated the gs from the Germans interior-wise---this unnecessary attention to minute detail. And agree, wish that it did not dim down when put in drive.
I just returned from getting a bite to eat and since it was past sunset and dark I thought about this thread. I extended my finger horizontally under the door panel trim piece near the seat memory buttons and there was a soft ambient light on my finger. I looked down at the front seat foot wells and there was a soft light coming from under the dash. I looked in the rear seat foot wells and to my surprise (never noticed it before) there was a soft light coming from under the rear of the front seats...
The door panel ambient lighting is so soft it really isn't noticeable - I wish it was a tiny bit brighter.
PS - Do the rear door panels have ambient lighting too? I haven't looked...
No, you're not the only slow one. I've had my GS for almost 3 years and I rarely drive at night. I FORGOT it had the ambient lighting until someone posted it a week or so ago. I was driving home one night and I still had to strain to see it. It is nice but REALLY dim. I do like the way the lighting from the HVAC buttons and other areas reflects on the aluminum trim at night.
Oh, is there a light for the center console area? If so, what does it light (top of the console or inside the console), and where is the bulb located? I don't recall seeing it...
No lighting specifically for the console. It's the reflection of the white lights in the HVAC buttons hitting the top of the aluminum-trimmed cupholder door that looks nice.

Dang, you mean Lexus shorted us a light for the center console!!!
There's a pinhole light pointed at the shifter. It's in the bottom of the rearview mirror. Stick your hand under the mirror and you'll see it. Tons of tiny little lights in this car, I love it. Especially since they're all hidden and indirect. Even the cupholder area is lit.
