Default Question - Blue mode light dimming with acceleration

So one of my favorite little details is how the dash display switches from blue to red in Sport/Sport+ mode.

I was driving around today and noticed that when I pressed on the accelerator, the blue light would dim down to dark. I didn't notice it earlier and am wondering if it happens for other people?

Yes, I think that blue light is like the Eco light and it tells u if ur driving economically, that's why it disappear when u punch the gas and reappear when u let go.

Totally normal, even the Prius we got as a rental did this. Blue is economical driving mode, when you punch it, although it is more economical than sport mode, it still isn't the best for fuel economy so the light lets you know this.

Dark blue fades to black in both Normal and Eco mode dependent upon engine load/acceleration.

You should only be seeing RED!

Okay, I found the setting buried in the display settings. Turned blue to always on and bright.

A couple of criticism:
(1) The car really only needs Eco and Sport+.
(2) It should start in whatever mode it was left in

I just switch to normal modes on crappy pavement.

Okay, another very technical question:

Can you pick out which mode is on from OBD2? If I wanted to add some other lights that changed color depending on mode, I'd need to figure out a way to tell. Was thinking of a very subtle glow in the reading lights in red/blue depending on mode.

I don't remember seeing that in the OBD2 settings.

So always on overrides the red. I guess I have to deal with the shifting blue.

I disagree completely. I cruise in normal mode and use Sport+ for fun, but I've had it in Eco mode maybe one time out of curiosity. More modes and more customizability are a good thing. I wish it had a "comfort" mode too.

I actually like seeing the BLUE in both Eco and Normal modes. And, of course I like the RED in Sport mode.

If I keep it blue, bills are getting paid and the kids are being fed.

If I keep it red, I'll be carpooling.

The system starts up in last used mode, unless you were in S or S+. That's probably due to EPA regs, because your gas mileage will be less in the sport modes...economy or performance, your choice.
