Default Res+

I'm thinking about purchasing a RES+ with install from my dealer. There just isn't a great Viper installer in my area. I've got a quote from my dealer for $999 for the part and labor. It seems quite high, but from what I understand there is a fair about of labor involved with the install. I've looked through the threads, but there seems to be a dearth of info about RES+ installs due to a lot of people going for the viper system. Anybody got any comments on 1)price that I was quoted and 2)the RES+ in general.

Is your dealer saying they can install RES+ in a 4GS? Last I checked (and I just checked again on the web site) it wasn't available for our cars.

Sure it is. Right on the accessories page.

Lexus hasn't pushed RES+ despite it being out over a year. They launched it with the 2013 RX and poorly advertised it.

RES+ does not seem to be available on the GS. If it truly is the RES+ and it functions once installed, please let us know. The website only shows RES, which is not phone accessible.

I think ES and RX are the only models that get RES+

Hmmm. Troubling that there is confusion. There is a website: https://www.lexusresplus.com/‎ However, it doesn't give compatibility by model number. My dealer tech specialist is pretty sure that the GS is compatible. Mine is a 2013 F-sport.

Actually, it does -- though that site itself is much more confusing in this regard than the original site was.

Hit the "compatibility" button up top, and tell it you have an RX 350. Pick some random carrier and random phone. You should get 5 tabs of information telling you what works with that phone, and the 5th tab is the "RES+ (if equipped)" tab.

Do the same again and tell it you have a GS 350. You won't even see the "RES+" tab any more.

+1
RES+ tab does disappear. Since it was never there when I checked it the first time, I would have never known that the tab even existed.

I doubt it can be installed unfortunately. You might be able to install it and you'll be able to start it with the keyfob but I don't think Lexus servers will acknowledge the signal as the 4GS isn't supported. AFAIK only the RX, EX and GX are compatible. I recently had Viper Smart Start with tracking installed and love it. It's worth asking your dealer to install it. Doubt they will but it doesn't hurt to try.

That Viper Smart Start looks pretty nice. I vaguely recall our insurance asking if we had vehicle tracking or something similar to qualify for a discount on our insurance. Did you qualify for any discounts on your insurance because you have it?

I've heard some insurance companies do have discounts for vehicle tracking services, but Geico has no such discount.

check Lexus Drivers.com and you will see that RES+ is not available for the GS.
