FedEx brought my new wheels today and I just got a chance to open them up and when I checked the air pressure they are set at four different pressures from 35lb to 38lb. Can some one tell me what these should be set at front and rear. They are MRR HR10's fronts are 20x8.5 with Nitto Motivios 245/35-20 and rears are 20x10 with 275/30-20. Would appreciate if anyone knows what to set them at front and rear. Also wondering if I should torque the lug nuts to the same spec as the oem wheels or a different spec. Again thank you for any replies I really appreciate the help.

 

I don't know the exact pressure but since there staggered the back tires should have 1lb more than the front so if the front are 36lb then the back should be 37lb. also they are low profile tires so I believe 36lb in front should be fine, back 37lb.

 

I believe official lug nut torque is 76 ft-lb but most just set for 80 ft-lb for convenience.

 

Thank you I will give those numbers a go. Cant believe they didn't pay closer attention when they were mounting them up at the wheel shop before sending them to me.

 

Thanks Terry, I figured I would use the oem specs and round to 80 like you said. If I wasn't in such a hurry to but on the wheels I would wait until tomorrow when the outfit I ordered them from opens and find everything out then. But I got the Tanabe springs on yesterday and really want to see how the wheels look and fit. Thanks again for the responses.

 

Also I assumed you had ordered a new set of lug nuts since the stock one is different.

 

Well I checked with the tire and wheel shop I got my wheels from today and they told me they always put 40 psi all the way around on low profile tires. That didn't sound right so I decided to contact Nitto tech support to see what they would recommend. I emailed them my wheel and tire specs before noon today and they got back to me with an answer a couple hours later, their reply was: ,

Regarding your inquiry, based on the vehicle information you provided, the recommended replacement psi for the NTMotivo *245/35ZR20 95W is 38 psi for the front tires. For the *275/30ZR20 97W is 36 psi for the rear tires.

Interesting as I always figured the pressure was usually higher in the rear but there you go right from Nitto this is the correct pressure for these tires. Just though I would let everyone know what I found out.

 

Some people adjust a little up or down from the recommended pressure because it changes handling dynamics. You can do so without too much worry as long as you keep it close to the recommended pressure.

 

I run a tad lower in the winter and back to spec when it's warm.

 

I wonder what they base their recommended pressure reading on?

I would think if you were on a race team and tracking the car, they'd at least ask you for ambient temp and pressure? But .... Since this is a street car with air (not nitrogen) fill in the tire, the tire pressure can vary by up to +/- 5 psi if not more in just one day.

So for all intents, their recommendation is the same as the 40psi all around you were going to use.

 

I was watching my TPMS this morning. I started to work at 31psi all around.. got to work at 37psi ...

then, soon enough, I'll start getting low pressure alerts when it cools off.

 

I had put 38psi all around before I received their response and I think I am just going to leave it at 38psi, seems fine to me.
