Default traction control engaging while car is stopped?

so today for the 2nd time in the past month, the traction control on the car randomly engaged while the car was stopped at a stop light, both times the car was stopped for a while before it happened. if i put the car into park it would disengage.

has anyone else encountered this?

Weird. Explain a little more what exactly what happened when it went off. Did the slip light come on?

It's probably the hill hold feature. If you depress the brake all the way when completely stopped, the light flashes. When you let off the brake, it will hold a few seconds then release.

That happened to me the other day too! For the same reason. I was stretching actually and it happened. I pressed in the brakes all the way a few more times to make sure that was what was triggering it.

So what is this hill hold feature? What's the functionality of this? Is it to stop the vehicle from rolling backwards on a hill before getting on the gas?

I would have never thought hill holding is needed on an AT.

Exactly right. On steep hills even cars with automatic transmissions can start to roll back between the time you release your foot off the brake and press down on the accelerator. I only needed to use this feature once, but it works.

I have used this feature very often. I live in FL, our highest hill is an over pass.

I use it when at a light. I activate it, release the pedal and then lightly hold it. No excessive pressure is required.

This feature very useful if you live in the Bay area.
