Default How to reset...

How is the avg mpgs from last refuel reset? We tried holding the display button down but it does not affect it although it does reset avg mpgs.

Thanks

I believe that is set automatically and cannot be manually reset. And I don't know what the reset mechanism is to try a reset - I don't think just removing and replacing the gas cap will cause a reset.

Have to ask though - if your car is properly reseting with each fill why would you be trying for a manual reset?

If you are currently displaying AVG MPG from last refuel, pushing down the display button and holding it will reset the info. I do it at every fill-up. My car has never automatically reset as the previous poster described.

Dseag2 - that is interesting and I am speaking as an owner of several ES's which all reset automaticlly but maybe I assumed wrongly that all Lexus models operated this feature the same. I do set my trip odometer with each refill but haven't even tried restting the mpg after fill for several years.

I want to reset it because the car was left idling for about an hour while the dlrs tech guy showed my wife how to work everything and im sure it screwed up the mpgs for our first full tank. I would like to reset it manually, anyone know how?

That's the way I understand it.

Thanks. If thats the case it would be interesting to know the mechanism that facilitates the auto-reset.

You can set it to automatically reset when you refill it or reset it yourself. I have it set to automatically reset itself, although I seem to do it myself.

If you want to reset the avg then keep pressing DISP on the steering wheel until you get AVG MPG (not MPG Tank). Then press and hold DISP and it will reset your average MPG. I do that when I am doing bad driving and want to get better MPG readings again when cruising on the highway. I would just reset my MPG average. I cannot reset the AVG MPG since last refuel.

It was the same for the 3GS. I have tried all sorts of things but I cannot figure out how to trick it so it'll reset.

Its very easy. Keep pressing DISP button until you get to MPG Average. Then press and HOLD DISP to reset that MPG average. You cannot reset the MPG after refuel though. There is 2 different MPG averaging on the 4GS. Super easy to reset. The 3GS you could not reset.

Thanks, the after refuel reset is what I started the thread about so I guess there's no solution.

21.4 after refuel ? my average MPG reading reads 151.1 up from 14.4. when i fill up my cruising range is at 247, i'm pretty sure it should be 250, maybe i'm wrong. when i purchased the car my avg. mpg was at 16, then down to 14.4, now back up to 15.1. 21.4 after refuel means what???

Ok to get the refuel reset, you go into menu and into fuel consumption and then click reset then there will be past records click that and click reset, it should reset the counter for your MPG.
