Default Steering Wheel Vibrates While Idling.

Hi i'm from Singapore & driving a GS 250 F Sport. Got it a month ago brand new. I discovered while the gear is in "D" mode with brakes depressed, i can feel the lower parts of the steering wheel vibrating. Put the gear to "N" & the vibrations disappear immediately!

I was wondeing if it's normal or there is something wrong with the engine or transmission mountings? Bought the car back for my 1st servicing at 1000km at local agents, told them the problem & all they say is the the used OBD2 scanner to scan & no fault code found & ask me to monitor I was thinking this is more of a mechanical issues than a electronic issue, why check with a OBD2 scanner instead of checking on the engine or transmission mounts!

Any guys here have the same issue? Hope my case is not an isolated 1...

As far as I'm concerned, EVERY car will have some vibration feedback while in gear. Whether it's our GSs or an s-class mercedes (and yes I drive alot of different cars). I admit I don't have my GS as it's being made, but during my test drive I didn't notice it. I just got out of an 08 s500 and there was vibration in gear, very minimal but if you pay attention you feel it.

I find the vibration a little excessive for a less than a month old car which just did his 1000km servicing. I can even feel it on my butt... If u feel it in gear you would think it's juz a little vibration. But if u shift it to "N" while your hand is still on the steering wheel, all the vibrations will just disapper. That's when i feel the vibration is quite bad! Think i'll go try out my friend's GS 350 to see his has the same vibrations or not... I find that a luxury based car like the GS should keep vibration to a minimum while in gear. Lexus can make such good insulation to make the cabin so quiet but having vibration that is so irritating. Doesn't make any sense! Even Toyota Camry dun have such vibrations on the steering wheel..

On my GS, when I switch from N to D, I can't even tell the difference (till I let go of the brake of course). No vibration at all (none that I can feel at least).

What is the outside temperature? I've found that ALL Toyotas (yes Lexus too) idle much higher when the temperature drops below 50* F. Look at your odometer and if it's in the 12-1500 range, that is likely the cause. This annoyance is much worse if you keep your car outside 24/7.

disregard - looks like current temps in Singapore are 90* F...I have no idea what's wrong (if anything) with your car.

Tried my friend's GS350. It's the same but his has vibration on reverse gear is worse than mine. Guess it's normal as long as there is no vibration when in P or N then all is well.

Guess vibration when in gear is inevitable like wat bro dezymond said. Initially thought it's because i changed the stock 18" rims to 19" dat will cause vibration due to different tyre profile. Now front is 245/40/R19 rear 275/35/R19. But tried mu friend's GS350 on stock rims is the same. His vibration in "R" is stronger...

I'm sorry I don't know this, but is the 250 a small 6-cylinder engine or a 4-cylinder engine? That might make it more prone to vibration than the engine in the 350.

I believed GS250 is a 2.5l V6.

Yes the GS250 is a 2.5L V6, same as the 350 but it's 2500cc. I think Lexus uses harder engine mounts for better torque transfer this time round while sacrificing a little comfort. I dunno... Feel the engine mount a little stiffer...

If you can feel a difference in vibration through the steering wheel compared form nuetrel to drive, I'd say something is wrong. My 92 SC with an inline six is vibration free from the seat of the pants/steering wheel no matter the rpm/speed or gear. This isn't a $12,000 Nissan Versa where such nonsense is expected, talk "sternly" to your dealer.

I believe different car makes & models behaves differently. So u can't compare it with another make. As i've compared with the same make same model, all has the same "issue". So i presume it's normal.

Since you are in Singapore, mostly likely you have A/C on all the time. But have you try turning off A/C and see if vibration still exist?
