Default Steering Wheel Controls

After reading the thread by 1SICKLEX on his analysis of the GS 400/430, he mentioned the controls for the radio being on his steering wheel. I don't have that but just the shift buttons for what I think is the E-Shift. Bottom line, how many of u out there use them for shifting. Is there an advantage using them as opposed to having the car driven in automatic. I've never driven a stick-shift car but all I know from what I've been told is stick gives u more control of the car. I'm kinda of scared to use it fearing that I'll mess up the tranny some way or another. I did do a reset of my ECU about three weeks back and noticed a difference while driving in automatic w/o Power ECT mode. Chime in. If there's some kind of improvement, then I'll get another shot at it.

E-shift is for more aggressive driving. You will notice your MPG go lower too b/c instead of being in a higher gear cruising, you hold the transmission gear.

My suggestion is try it a week going to and from work and see if you like it.

Hope this helps. Im not too good at explanning things like this but here goes. I usually use it on the freeway or some might call it the highway depending where you are from. Once I'm up to speed I just activate the e-shift so just in case I need to all of the sudden speed up to make a lane change or like stated before defensive driving situations, all I need to do is hit the button. Kinda like power on tap. It will take longer for the car to down shift if you are in the automatic drive gear and hit the pedal. With e-shift its instant. Also helps when you see the cops too. I down shift with the e-shift as I pass a cop so my brake lights dont come on as it would indicate obvious speeded

back to the point of no having radio controls on the gs3s that's just soo gay. All luxo cars r suppose to have steering wheel controls..how do u put it on the GS4 and not the 3! Neither car is less luxurious then the other..main difference is engine..both can be gotten with navi, hid, heated seats.. WHY NOT steering wheel controls!! sorry guys..just aggrevates me that my older Infiniti had it but Lexus which in my opinion is a better luxo car doesn't have it.

Well I'll give it a try tomorrow. But before I do so, I'll read up on the chapter for the E-Shift. I'll be watching the needle for the gas tank closely to see if mileage is effected. Great!! Just as gas prices are going back up again I decide to play around with E-Shift. Thanks all.

I don't have the radio controls either.. i wish i did... My GF's Mazda has them and there really convenient. It should have been a stardard option for the GS but back in 98-00 they may not have had radio buttons on steering wheels..

Here you go buddy. I was trying real hard to add the volume controls to my OEM radio, but I just purchased a Clarion unit last week. So I am going to get one of those volume control adapters and try to integrate it with my Clarion now...

Chin, so you have a gs300 and you got the steering wheel controlls installed on your car and the OEM radio didn't allow the steeringwheel controls to work?

How are you going to make a Clarion work with the OEM steering controls?

BTW you gota share some pics of your interior..you've got the sexiest interior ever in a gs

Appreciate the comments man... they volume controls are not plug and play for the GS300. From the research I did, the volume controls and or the paddle shift are all part of a larger multiplexing circuit. I really wanted to do it because at the time I just finished installing my Vais Ipod adapter but then it dawned on me, for 3-400 more, I can get dvd/video/and a 7" screen, so I just sold the Vais and I am going to try to integrate one of these http://www.mobilcaraudio.com/catalog...160/984010.htm or something similar... we'll see. I am going to finish up my stereo install & remote start this weekend... so I will play with it then...

Tomorrow after I give her a bath, I'll upload some pics. There's another thread going around titled Platinum Edition vs. Sportdesign - so I have to represent for the Sportdesign's
