Default Scheduled Maintenance.

I noticed that Lexus schedules maintenance levery 5,000 miles, but oil changes every 10K. My question is - is the 5k interval really necessary and/or required for warranty purposes? Is it optional? I know that Mercedes only schedules every 10,000 miles.

they cant deny you warranty coverage for not doing scheduled maintenance unless some failure was directly caused by the lack of maintence. For me IS I just do oil changes at 5k/4 months and thats it. Lot of the things on the scheduled maintenance you can do yourself (filters etc)

I think they just want to check every thing is ok, but the oil changer at 10k i would check the oil at 5-6-7-8-9k, to make sure its not burning.

Every 5K there is a "light" service. The tires are rotated and pressures set. Fluids are topped and oil is checked.

i would take advantage of everything they offer. 5K service is what Bill_GS3 said. doesn't hurt to get things checked out.

Changed mine at 1,000 miles. I know people say the engine is broken in already, but how much is it broken in? How long did they run the engine for the break-in period? Was the oil changed after the breaking in routine?

Not sure where I could get those answers, so I decided to changed it at 1K anyways. Only cost $88 bucks. Now I plan on changing the oil every 5K.

Met an engineer that told me he bought a Lexus in 1990 and finally sold it in 2010. In twenty years, he amassed 665,000 miles. He attributed the longevity to regular maintenance and especially changing the oil every 3,000 miles. He was using petroleum oil and sold it a couple years ago. Bought by a father and son, they totalled it not long after.

I mentioned that with synthetic oil it is advised to change it every 3K. I'm pretty sure I can get away with doing it every 5K.

I skipped the 30 day/1k and 5k service as they are merely "multi-point inspections" along with a tire rotation.

The 10k is the oil change.

The first 10k service also includes a cabin air filter change.

Make sure you check the oil level at 5,000 miles; recently mine seriously had diminishing oil levels at 10,000 miles, without a 5,000 mile check, because originally, I filled the required 6.3 litres, but when I drained it - I only managed 5 odd liters.
What happened to the other 1.3 liters during the 10,000 miles?
I will check the oil level at 5,000 miles from now on...

Did you drain your car at an angle?
