Default Fuel Efficiency

i think i saw a thread on this subject but can't find it. what is the break in period as far as you seeing any fuel efficiency . it's not serious but just wondering if there could be something wrong. i am getting 14.8 mpg. no sport or sport plus mode driving, only on certain highways and not everyday. i even put it in eco mode for a couple of days to test and it came up the same. have 2300 miles on her so far.

I get 21.0 mpg with mixed driving in all modes: normal, eco, and sport with 1000 miles on my odometer.

I run "Top Tier" Premium Fuel: Shell V-Power or Chevron Supreme with Techron.

I have an AWD Lux package with about 800 miles on the odo. I run Shell V-Power 93 octane and drive 80%+ freeway at 72-75 MPH. After three fill-ups, my average recorded mileage per www.fuelly.com is 24.0 MPG with my last fill-up listed at 24.7 MPG.

I'm currently getting 14-16 mpg on nearly 100% city driving.

Hello all, I got 15 litres/100 km (translates to ~15.5 mpg) on my first tank (400km). Using 91 octane. I'll keep an eye out for higher octane stations in my neighbourhood, but I think I'm stuck with 91.

Excuse the metric numbers, I'm in Canada . I may just switch my GS350 off metric for the next few tanks so we don't have to do any math!

My drive is about 10km (6 miles) commute each way, in medium traffic through the city. I also had a couple of highway jaunts.

As a note, I also spent most of the time in eco. To be honest, I don't think the modes make a huge difference, unless you're really gunning it everywhere you go.

One thing to note - and my dad pointed it out when I told him the mileage I got using his car (it was about 6 mpg poorer than when he drives it) - is how heavy your foot is from a stand-still. I don't speed, and I tend to coast a lot to lights, so I figured I should be getting optimal fuel economy. He bluntly pointed out that I'm heavy on the gas in stop and go traffic. And not that I lurch forward and stop. But from any red light I tend to try to get to the speed limit relatively quickly.

Not sure if it's a factor, but a consideration...

As a note, the only time I've EVER gotten good gas mileage on any of my cars is when I had a long highway commute against traffic and stuck to the speed limit on cruise. Aside from that, I tend to rarely get the quoted figures.

I just crossed 500 miles - getting 20.5 to 21.2 mpg - using 93 octane fuel (Racetrac or QT) - about 50% city, 50% hwy miles

Forget the Eco indicator. Pay attention to the traffic light and pace your car for the green light. If you see a red light ahead, release the gas pedal and let it roll. The idea is to avoid as many stops as possible. Not only this will improve gas millege, this will help your brake pad last much longer. My brake pad on my 3GS didn't need to change even at 60K.

makes me wonder why lexus has not put the start/stop tech common in some other luxury cars.

BMW put the start-stop in the new 335i and it's driving some people crazy. Maybe Lexus knows things we don't.

I am at 21.5 mpg after two tanks. 50/50 city/hwy. Not too bad so far!
