I like my car, but it's not worth $250K, no matter which country you live in. That's awful OP.
It's very weak, if I may say so myself. The general idea was (when they came up with this insane tax) that if we buy _foreign_ cars then ALL our money will be paid to foreigners and we'll have no money left. Incredibly lame, but that's how it was. We were, and still are, a fairly backwards bunch.
At the end of the day, the people who really make money are the banks with the interest on the carzy principal. All in all, the whole country is tied up in paying interests which is crazy.
FWIW, a base 2.0L Camry here is about 42k USD - if you look at it that way, it kindda numbs the pain a little. Only a little.
(Btw, the Camry ONLY get taxed about 100% because it's assembled here and it has an engine less than 2.5L)
