Well I just turned 75,000 miles in my GS460 and have an original strut leaking in the rear (or is it a shock??).. I guess getting 13 years out of the first set I can't complain! Would you just replace the leaking one in the rear or both?? Is this a dealership purchase?? I'm sure this won't be cheap! Oh well... Thanks for any help!
I had one leaked and replaced all 4 on my 08. Bought 2 from rockauto KYB and the other 2 from the dealer. Then went to a local shop to get them installed.
A little bit of leaking is ok, a lot is not. If there still dampening leave them. You can replace them with aftermarket kyb, there pretty cheap on rockauto.com and you order for a rwd GS350, they fit with no issues. Aftermarket does not have adaptive suspension, so if your car came with that option (rare option) you can still use the kyb but you just leave the top servos disconnected and you will not have issues.
I checked Rock Auto and they did not offer ANY?? I thought that was strange and figured my only option was the dealer?? My car came with a Adaptive Variable Suspension..

I called KYB and they DO NOT offer shocks/struts for the GS460!!! She said I would have to go back to the dealership! Wow!
lexuspartsnow shows the same part numbers for struts for the gs350 and the gs460. rockauto lists struts for the gs350, and most likely you could just order those ones. you'd still be sacrificing your AVS tho.

You will need to buy struts for a RWD GS350 if you want to run KYB aftermarket on your 460. KYB is an oem supplier for lexus, so youre getting an oem strut. Because you have the adaptive suspension you would need to leave it unplugged. Many 460 owners have used KYB's, it beats paying the insane dealer prices.
I just checked dealer msrp on oem strut is 321 each for the front and 358 each for the rears. Youre looking at $1,358 minus tax.
KYB $82 rears 87 fronts and theres a rebate on them, but without the rebate $344 plus shipping
But like I mentioned if youre not getting a bouncy ride just keep the stock setup. I replaced my rear struts at 130k miles with the kyb and they were fine but I replaced them hunting a tire wear issue.
