Solid solution for Remote Starting
So I have been wanting to sort the car out with a good remote starting system, and after a ton of reading am no further towards a solution that does not involve the car shutting off when the door is opened (which I really dislike), or other annoying trade offs. If you were an '08 GS460 with the 3 button remote, how would you want to be started up remotely? Pretty sure this was never an option so am wanting to know of solutions that work, after market or not.
I was thinking of something a little tricky, like a spare remote programmed to my car, built in to the cabin somewhere that's only powered when the remote start system is activated. Do you think this would stop the engine shutting off when the door is opened. In effect having a key "inside" the vehicle... Is the remote being outside the car what is stopping the engine when the door is opened?
I think this will still have a trade off with the vehicle able to be opened by anyone using the touch to unlock on the handles given the key in the car. But getting a little trickier, maybe somehow the spare key inside the car could only be powered until started, and then activated again as you approach the car (by the puddle lamps as a power source or something)... Thoughts?

There have been several guys who have succeeded in getting remote start, many if I remember correctly ran aftermarket remotes. If you look at the older post, or even the IS guys more likely have also modded remote starts
I hunted high and low here for such threads and didn't come up with much TBH, so if you could punch up a couple of links that would be useful. I am quite interested in the "why" behind the car shutting off when the door is opened if anyone that knows could chuck their 2c in... If the window was open and you popped the key inside the car before opening the door, would it stay running? Is it an intentional feature, or a hand over issue is what I'm chasing here. Would help me determine my after market options is all.
Anyone out there with a remote start of any kind willing to do a quick test for me? Pop your spare remote inside before you start it, then hop in and tell me if it keeps running. My inkling is this will work, but will still require you to push the start button with the foot on the brake to "hand over" remotes so to speak (if you have a second one in the car I mean)... That I don't mind, but I will make this happen come hell or high water without the car shutting off if I'm going to do it. I'm a little bit handy with electronics and think I have a way around this if the key inside the car question can be confirmed. Thanks for the link man, that was a good one.
Theres a comment to where someone asked if there system shuts off the car. The company replied that due to the lexus/toyota key setup software, they dont have a solution. Surely if someone was able to crack it without a restart, then these guys would have it in there system.

Thanks for the comment man, typically I would agree, and these things cross do my mind, but maybe they haven't thought about it like me
IF, the key in car comment can be confirmed, I am pretty sure it can be done, and simply too. IF however the car still shuts off, I think you may be right, but I won't accept anything less than giving it a go. Imagine if I did sus it out, how good would that be for CL peeps
Not dissing the comment, all I need is a remote starter to confirm... Even if I am barking up the wrong tree it's worth a crack!

The way I see it the testing if someone is willing... needs to happen like this:
TEST #1: We know already this will shut down the engine
1. Ensure there is NO spare key in the car
2. Hop out close doors

4. Hop in car
TEST #2: Does it shut off the engine?
1. Put spare key in the car

3. Remote start car
4. Before opening the door slip the remote inside

Im not saying its impossible and that it cant be done, but it would be tricky figuring it out. But a spare key permanently mounted in the vehicle, then separate relays for the door sensor, then for the brake sensor are more likely a must if you plan to fool the security.

I installed a Fortin Evo One paired with an RF642W long range transmitter about 2 years ago. It requires you to carry an extra remote but it doesn't shut off when you open the door. If you step on the brake it will shut off but if you push the cars remote start button twice without hitting the brake you can just drive off. I didn't wire the door locks so I just have to unlock the car with the factory remote before I remote start the car or else you will have to use the physical to open the doors. If you wire the doors when installing the remote start that solves that problem.
I'm still gagging for the answers to those questions, maybe I should pop it in the IS threads given there are a few more remote starters there... Anyone?
Thanks for your input man, was another good one to look at... Out of interest, can you not just push the start button once inside the car rather than having to dig out the other remote to hit that button twice? All of the evidence suggests you can, but maybe I misunderstand it, or the way Lexus behaves with this setup.

So this is what I do.
1. Hit the unlock button in the OEM fob to unlock the car.
2. Hit the remote start.
3. When I'm ready go out and get into the car.
4. Hit the start button in the car twice.
5. Drive off.
This was the only solution that I found that had the takeover feature for the 3rd gen GS at the time.
That is pretty cool, I quite like that and one of the better after market options I have seen so far. I love the mapping and extended features for sure, but I just can't get past the car shutting off, if it's a feature I really don't understand why?

i’m dying to find out if you can figure this out, as I would put one in mine as well. It’s a silly question but given the old-school V-8 to these cars need to warm up? I know in Southern California we need to get the AC running but I also wanna make sure I’m taken care of the engine. Any thoughts? I’m a new owner and want my 460 to last a very longgg time. Ty, JW
But really... it's irrelevant in this one, not to be rude, but I want to keep this thread relating to remote starting only, not car care. But seeing as I am typing this, already, change your oil more often that you need, and use the recommended oil type (viscosity at least). Important for the VVT and other things. I usually do my filter at 10K, and oil at 5K, car will last for ever. If there is anything I have learned about Japanese cars, they love oil changes!
Please cut and paste and move to another thread though man... Cheers
