Towing
I need to tow the wife's 06 GS300 AWD almost 4 hrs away from the house to the dealership. Is it possible to use a tow dolly instead of a full size trailer, without damaging the car? The steering is locked with wheels turned slightly (part of the reason it's going to the dealership). I need some help with this before I rent the dolly or trailer next week.
Thanks guys

Had it at the dealership a few weeks ago to turn off the imobilizer setting, was told the locksmith fried the computer that recognizes the fob. Apparently it is located somewhere under the dash, on the inside of the firewall. Did not have the $2000 just for labor to remove and replace the dash (10 hours book time) at that time, so just towed it back home after paying the $600 diagnostic fee. Have the money to get it done now, so I was hoping to get it there with just a dolly rental instead of a flatbed rental from uhaul. Ugh

How does a locksmith fry the ecu?? If anything the locksmith, the guy you paid should cover your repairs.
This doesnt make sense to me! I think the dealer is pulling a fast one on you. $600 for a diagnosis is crazy!
Does the paperwork show what parts need to be replaced? Have you thought about taking it to a lexus/toyota specialist near you. Or maybe to another locksmith that is good with lexus key fobs. I highly suspect a locksmith can kill or fry the ecu, he may have erased all the key fob codes and didnt properly register them. Or maybe the key fob youre trying to use is not compatible with your car.

It was the computer that "recognizes the fob". We live in a rural part of Nevada and although there is a Toyota dealership in town, the nearest Lexus dealership is in Salt Lake City and that was the dealership we took it to. The original fob was found but the car is not responding to it.
Drive to your local toyota dealer, and ask them can you and how much to program a key for me. Tell them the story that you had a locksmith attempt to code a new key but was not successful. Tell them you found the original key and you just want them to register the original key. They should charge you half an hours labour.
If that module is bad! You can then take your car to any mechanic shop that specialize in japanese cars, have them replace it for a lot less money. I dont think you need to remove the hole dash just to reach that module, you might get away by accessing it through the glove compartment.
Try the the toyota route, wont cost you much. im betting the lexus tech didnt even bother to try and erase all the registered key fobs, and program the new key properly.

I can confirm removing the putting back the whole entire dash is 6-10 hours.
I also question how the locksmith could have friend the ecu. If the additional fob is virgin key it can be added to the memory easy. If it is not virgin you have to erase and reset the immobilizer ecu and add all new keys again, usually needing a seed key or a hack thereof.

I would think most Lexus hourly rates are between $110 to $150
