Those codes are pulling up transmission related issues. p0761 has something to do with solenoid c stuck off. p0781 shows a 1-2 shift malfunction. Are you experiencing any issues with the transmission?

Many 2006 GS300 owners have had issues with their stock ecu, the transmission module inside the ecu is usually cures this issue. Many are sending their ecu's to company that tests and fixes these ecu. I think they charge about $150 dollars. I would try this before doing any transmission work.

Also some have had to replace the solenoids inside the transmission.

Guys,
I've been getting P2198 & P0037, the dealer is saying I have to replace the ECU with the latest one (Part# 89666-30365) with two O2 sensors. Their claim is that Lexus have changed the design of their O2 sensors and the old ECU doesn't understand the new changes and has to be replaced.

$1900 for the ECU + 2 O2 sensors at $720 each. My question is can those repair ECUs be trusted and can they fix the issue? Junk yards do not seem to have this particular version.

The car is very smooth and in showroom condition but not worth dropping almost $3400 + tax on it. Any suggestion?

Default GS 300 VSC Light due to low Alternator output

Changed my Spark Plugs and ended with a VSC error light plus engine. Then the battery went dead, recharged it & had it checked at Autozone, they said it was good (?). The battery was 6 years old, so I purchased a new one from Lexus as it had 84 month warranty, they gave me a 25% discount, lol. All was good, all error went away until 2 days later, same VSC error. Checked voltge on battery, 12.64V which is good, then checked alternator, it came in at 13.6V( not good). I pulled it out, that back nut is pathetic, hard to get out. Took it to Autozone, it checked out good(??). Put it back in, charged the battery and drove it around, the VSC came back on within a day and the Alternator voltage is still 13.6V, thoughts? What did I screw up during my spark plug change?

Reviewing and thinking about components, I cleaned the serpentine belt. It looked good, but after 87K miles, wonder if it has worn and is slipping on the alternator pulley. It cost about $30.00, I'll probably replace and test the voltage on teh alternator.

Give it time, sometimes that code clears on its own. But because it happened after you changed your plugs, I would go through all the plugs that you unplugged to make sure they are all clear. At times the rubber seal inside the plug gets shifted or falls off the plugs, once that happens water enters the plug and it will throw CEL

Installed the new serpentine belt, voltage on alternator is now 14.25V. I'd prefer 14.6V but 14.25V is good. Charging the batter a bit and wil disconnect to clear VSC code.

You're definitely never gonan get that at all LOL.....

13.6V is NORMAL . Our cars range between 13.4 (on the low side, on a hot day) to 13.9 (on a cold day, cold startup).

On a hot day, I start at 14.5 and idle back to 13.8 on my HO alt, on a cold day I start at 15.0 and idle back to 14.2.

I am shocked you're getting such good voltages! Are these at startup?

FWIW, I caved in and purchased the gatorbelt (now taken over by Continental). I still have yet to install it lol... I purchased a aftermarket belt from advanced auto parts... And while it held its own for a few months, now I am seeing some deep voltage dips at idle (13.2-13.6 @ 900RPM) when music is playing.

Most of these repair guys are promoting fixing a hard down-shift in the transmission and they don't know about the issue I am talking about. I've contacted two so far on eBay.

I've also contacted couple of the junk yards out there and they don't have the exact model I am looking for but they claim they have other working models not sure they do have that fix for the O2 sensors though..

Do you usually have to buy the fobs with the used ECU or can the existing fobs be programmed to the new ECU?

The dealer should be able to apply your old software to the new ecu. No need for key fobs
