Angry Cruise control not working

The cruise control in my '09 GS 350 is no longer working. When I press the button I see the light, but nothing happens when I try to not set it. After paying the diagnostic fee at the dealer, they determined that I need an new ECU for $1250. Does this sound right? I am wondering if there is possibly another solution.

I quickly looked up the details on the system and you have 1:the steering wheel switch 2: cruise control ecu under the dash 3: Distance sensor near the radiator.

I would start by checking the fuses, make sure theres power going to that module. Next unplug and replug the module, if no change remove the ecu and open it up and see if theres anything wrong or corroded in it. You can take it to a ecu repair shop and some are able to repair such things. Or you can go to the junkyard and buy a used ecu. Did the dealer atleast give you a part number?

It sounds like they did all of that during diagnostics which took several hours. I did not get a part number, I was only told it was the ECU/ECM. They said it was not covered by my extended warranty, which was determined to be inaccurate by my resources. Shortly after, the service department contacted me and said they would cover it since I am a loyal customer. Ummm thanks?

I don't know where to even begin guessing on that...

So this isn't exactly resolved yet. They installed the new ECU and the cruise control worked fine, but then took it for one more test drive and it stopped working once again!!! Apparently they are reaching out to their corporate resources on this. Stay tuned...
