What does the ECU control...If I took out my ECU will my windows be able to go up and down? Would anything in my dash board light up? Also will your car be able to start up without the ECU?
Where is the ECM located the computer controls the engine.

I have a 94 GS 300.

 

You have about 20-30 ECU's in your car. The main engine control mudule or ECM is the one to control the engine, all the sensors and transmission.
The ECU's in your car control individual function, such as door ECU, A/C ECU, Steering ECU, ABS ECU, Body ECU, Wireless door lock control ECU...and so on. Which ECU or ECM you're talking about ?

 

Someone stole my car and removed parts and I was wondering why my car doesn't start up and my dash doesn't light up either.. I was told my ECU must have been stolen out of the car that why the dash won't light up, and my engine won't crank... What could be missing? Where is the ECM located? Which computer controls the electrical devices? What else do you think could be missing? The guys stole out my radio, climate control, Ashtray, the whole middle section of the car.. Any ECU's located behind the radio?

I'm curious as to where it is located because my key fob is useless besides turning on the car. I did some work on my car and now my clock, backup camera assistance line is out, Fuel gadge for the dash is stuck at the last reading when the car is off, and my mpg Tracker is resetting back to zero when the car turns off and on
