Default can my car locks be reprogrammed?

one of my key fobs was stolen out of my rx350 2017, now the thieves can gain entry to my car whenever they please! Can I get my car locks reprogrammed? and how much is a back up key?

I'm sure the dealer can program a new code. I'd guess 300$ give or take

You can get the car reprogrammed, and it will cost you quite a few bucks at the dealership (not much of a choice IMO).

You can also go online and (best bet IMO) order NEW key fobs.

Some dealerships are picky and will refuse USED keys, others might be more lenient and do it anyway (from what i've seen over the years).

I think his main concern is that someone now has his fob and could potentially steal the car with it. Picking up a spare fob is not going to address that situation.

It will address the situation, because when he takes his new key into the dealership, he can tell them to erase all codes programmed into the car and start over again.

Ok, good to know. I didn't know that it was possible to erase the existing codes.

You should be able to do the programing with techstream if you purchase the cable:

The procedure will erase all keys, as long as you have one master there is no need for an authorization from a locksmith to reset the ECU. Make sure you have all keys present when programming.

If it helps, I will share you what I do when I buy new cars.

I have owned 2 Lexus, a RX 330 and a GS 350, and for both I only got one key from the previous owner, either they lost it or simply didnt have them.

After I discovered techstream, I always remove all registered keys from my car except the one I have on hand, you can perfectly and easily do that using TS. There is a lot of information regarding TS usage on this forum and online. The post above will also work. You can also use TS to program new keys, you just need a compatible virgin key, I recommend you to open the key fob and order keys matching the same board number.

Good luck!!
