Default Rear view mirror GPS off

I have a 2008 GS 350 and have started to have issues with the rear view mirror.
The NEWS indicator is constantly off. Going south it reads NE,and the like for other directions.
Is there a write-up on removal of the mirror?
Right now it’s useless,I don’t need the auto dimmer as my windows are tinted, the garage door function is not needed, and now the NEWS is going south.
Might be best just to remove the whole thing altogether!!
I have made sure that I’m in the right region(5)

The NEWS? If you want to reset your mirror compass:

1. Set the zone by holding "Auto" until a number displays.
2. Select zone by pressing the "Auto" button until you find your region. (Northern CA is '4' and Southern CA is '5')
3. Number will disappear.
4. Drive around in a cirlce at about 5 mph until "cal" disappears.
5. If unable to drive in a circle, drive around the block.

If that's not what you're looking for, I'd need to know what a NEWS indicator is. By 'off' I assume you don't mean off display wise, but that it's not calibrated?

Ohh, it’s called a compass. So you should be able to follow those steps in my original post and see if that does it for you!

Didn’t mean to confuse, but when I mentioned “off” I was meaning not correct.
Driving south,it would indicate anything other than the correct direction.

No worries! Give those steps a shot and let us know if that does the trick.

There are detailed instructions on how to reprogram it in the owners manual.

I've never heard a compass described as a "NEWS" before. That's a new one on me.

Tried the steps and still no go.
For some reason the word compass escaped me when writing the post.

How was it no go? Can you explain what went wrong? Did everything work accordingly to plan, as to what Broncosi has posted?

For example:

were you able to do all the steps as he said, exactly like it would turn out? (like got all the way to the step where you had to drive around 5mph with the word "cal" on the mirror until it finished).

In case you wanted to disconnect everything.

I pressed the power button until the geo location popped up,zone 5,released button and drove around in circles for a few minutes.
“Cal” did not appear, maybe I should drive in a circle longer?

So 'Cal' needs to show up. If you didn't see that, the compass didn't calibrate and will still be incorrect. 'Cal' should show up after the zone is selected. When I reset mine a few weeks back, no option for zone showed up, just the 'Cal'. So I'm not too familiar with that step. Gokou may have some additional troubleshooting but I would assume calibrating the compass would be a far better choice than removing the mirror.

Got a forehead slap moment.
Found the cause.
I had a phone holder attached to the windshield just below the mirror that has a magnet.
