I just hit 200k on my GS460, I haven't seen a ton of 3GS over 200k aside from a few 350s for sale so I thought I'd share my experience.
I bought the car with 135k I had to replace both rear calipers due to frozen slide pins ( common on our cars) starter went out at 180k, luckily my extended warranty covered those.
and my high pressure fuel pump o rings were slightly leaking so I just did those last week, apparently that's common for the 460 engine. Other than those minor things I've had no problems whatsoever, just oil changes, trans fluid, brake fluid, tires, spark plugs and battery. Everything still works and honestly the car drives just as good as it did when I bought it, just had it inspected and they found nothing wrong, I think I can easily get to 300k if I kept the car that long.
I've been highly impressed with this car, I was initially a little nervous about reliability since there isn't a ton of info out there on the GS460 and people seem to have a notion that newer lexus aren't built like the older ones, but it's been nothing but trouble free aside from the starter, I drive probably 75% highway and usually average about 26 mpg and have gotten 31 on highway trips which is better than my old GS300 got, really impressive for a v8 with great power. Ive been thinking of either getting a 14-15 GS350 or possibly an ISF, but really can't justify it with how well this car still drives
They really do get great mileage on the freeway. I averaged 28.5 MPG from Seattle to Houston last month, and that's with myself (225 pounds), my best friend (210 pounds), and another friend (270 pounds), as well as all of the luggage and a full computer setup in the trunk. Even with horrific traffic through LA and frequent stops, we kept the average MPG above 28 for the whole trip. If it were just myself, I bet I could've done over 30 MPG... Maybe.
Very Nice. How often did you change the transmission fluid if you don't mind me asking. Also, did you use OEM oil/ filter ?
I've changed it once around 170k at lexus, cost about $180, didn't notice much change, other than it might be slightly smoother shifting but that could also be in my head, I plan on doing it again in 20k or so. The 8 speed seems to be a pretty great transmission, haven't heard of any LS with problems with them.
