I did this for my 2IS, should be same process for 3GS. I also had to do my trunk supports too, those failed years ago and didn't realize what I was missing.
Looks like you can get MAXPOW brand 3GS versions for $21 on Amazon (also has the "Amazon's Choice" next to it)

But the Lift Support Depot guys seem to have better warranty for $30.
