Dealer says complete fuel tank needed since plastic hoses are bonded to the tank. Quote $1800! The fuel tank evap line has been chewed by rodents and is leaking. You guys have provided inventive solutions in the past. Please review pic. My idea is to cut section of bad conduit and insert smaller diameter hard rubber tubing into existing plastic conduit. I plan to secure it with small hose clamps. My worry is whether it will seal and prevent CEL. Any suggestions or other ideas?
lol that sucks! Try this, cut the flex hose portion all the way to the end to where it is just round with a nice sharp razor blade so that you dont crush the roundness off it. Then measure the outside diameter of those round end and at your local auto parts store purchase fuel line with the inside diameter of the end you just measured. Also its a good idea to purchase different sizes as small sections of fuel hose is cheap. Then you can either slip the hose right over, and use a small zip tie to hold it tight. Or you can use a rubber cement to help glue the line on but the zip tie should hold just fine.

Now that's what I was considering, just hope it doesnt leak. If it does, at least I attempted to save cost of new tank and labor.

This would be my suggestion. You can also throw on some heat shrink tubing around it to add an extra layer of assurance. I know there are several out there that will hold up just fine on this.
