Solution: cheap alternative to replace hood struts
Guys,
a week ago I replaced my struts, both were not holding the hood anymore for my GS 350 2007 AWD. OEM struts are expensive so i took the risk and bought chinese ones from ebay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/2X-L-R-Hood...72.m2749.l2649
item took 2 weeks to receive, replacement took 15min, was simple, just follow this guy's youtube post:
its worth a try. a quick note that the ones i bought dont come with the clips (check the video to know what I am talking about), I did placed them without the clips and they are holding pretty good so far. hope they last.

^^^beat me to it. haha.
*Edit* Actually, I remember the cheapest solution when I had my Cressida. A stick.
It also works for all makes and models and pretty much readily available. lol

lol, i can't believe that I've never thought of this. When working on my son's Honda Accord with bad hood struts....I was constantly looking for a baseball bat, piece of 2x4, stick, etc to hold the hood up.....when all along I could've simply used those!! DOH !!! I recently replaced the hood struts when I replaced his starter, so no more worries...but I'll remember for next time I have a strut go out!

Hi There,
I'm having the same issue with my hood and am looking to replace the struts. I notice in the video above the gentleman had to remove the clips. When replacing the struts with the new ones, do they all come with clips already attached or does it make sense to keep hold of the original ones and clamp them back on. The 3 brands I keep hearing about are Monroe, Sachs and strong-arm. Do they all work the same way/any difference between the brands that we know of? Do we not have to worry about reattaching the clips with any of the 3 brands mentioned above?
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you sir.

Hood Struts
The hood struts on my 2008 GS 350 are definitely compromised, as they no longer support the hood in an upright position; however, I have also noticed a "rattling" type noise emanating from the front upper dash or possible engine compartment area and I was wondering if the compromised hood struts could be causing the noise, I was wondering if anyone else had any information or experience with this issue.

The hood strut is definitely damaged because it does not support the hood, but it is more of a rattle noise, not a squeak and it happens in warm and cold weather. Thank you so much for your help.
