GS460 100K Maintenance
My GS460 went over the 100k (currently at 102,500) mile mark a few months ago and I finally was able to do some maintenance work. So far this year I've replaced the following:
-All four struts (KYB non-avs)
-Front wheel bearings hub (Timken)
-Front rotors (Centric)
-Front brake pads (Akebono)
-Rear brake pads (Akebono)
-New battery
-Water pump (aisin)
-Thermostat (aisin)
-Serpentine belt
-Temperature sensor (denso)
-Spark plugs
Amazing car so far. I didnt want to wait till the water pump went bad and risk engine damage/failure. Unlike the GS350, not too many used GS460 engines to be had. Next on the
Front Rotors
Timken Wheel Bearing
Old Plugs
New Plugs
Old Water Pump
New Water Pump
New Thermostat

3 out 4 were leaking and went ahead and replaced all four. AVS struts were too expensive and couldnt justify spending over $250 per strut when the KYB non-avs retails for $85 each.

A buddy came over to help me out with the job. I read and watched a few thorough videos on how to replace the water pump so I had a pretty good idea of the job. You dont have to remove the radiator which makes the job easier. With regards to the plugs, you will have to loosen the motor mounts so you can lift the engine just enough to allow the plugs in the back of the engine enough clearance to come out. Dont remove it completely. If you remove it completely it will complicate the job. No idea how much the dealer charges for this, but a good reputable independent shop should be able to do the job for much less than Lexus.

The old water pump in your pic looks like it's still in pretty good shape. My 460 has 168k on it now, and still on its original pump. Knock on wood that it'll either last a while longer, or give me some symptoms before going south. I have flushed the radiator 3x now to make sure no foreign object exists in the fluid to cause premature failure on the pump.

There's no need to loosen the motor mounts in order to replace the spark plugs. "Using a screwdriver, pry at the cutouts to remove the 8 ignition coils together with the 8 spark plug tube gaskets. Do not damage the cylinder head cover when removing the spark plug tube gasket. HINT:Tape the screwdriver tip before use."
I did this and it works. Good luck!

I replaced the plugs 2 weeks ago with 103 on the clock.
I also had a seal gone coating the plug with oil.
You do have to pull the battery to access pass side back two plugs. It’s a low - moderate skill DIY

Keep an eye for leaking O rings from the two high pressure fuel pumps on either side of the engine, I just replaced mine and it's apparently very common on this engine, (more common to see on the LS forum since it's a much more common car)
