Mileage Consensus
Hey..I post this periodically. Just wanted to know how many high mileage cars in this SC forum are still strong and where you are at.
I'll start first again.
1993 SC400. 134K miles. 90K major service done. new water pump and timing belt. Car runs great..same as when I bought it.
I'd like to hear how many miles people have on their cars.
I know a guy who has a 92 SC4 and put 300K on it and it's STILL smooth as a cat. All he had to do was replace the tranny around 250K. The engine is still fine.
Would appreciate your posts.
Thanks.

I've replaced a LOT of stuff in my car, but not because of general maintenance.
For maintenance, just consistent oil changes.
I did my minor services every 20K miles..replacing fluids and filters.
For my own personal reasons, I replaced my brakes w/metal master pads and cross drilled rotors. The kit I have is supposed to last 5 times longers than stock brakes. So I wanted them to last longer and they perform better at the same time, w/out brake rust all over my rims.
I replaced my old beat down leather w/custom black/tan two tone connelly leather.
BUt as far as major service...only timing belt and water pump were necessary.
ANyone over 200K?

My other white 93 SC400 bought in Feb. power mirrors don't work, seats and steering wheel work??? Thought those are control by the same ECU. Change timing belt, water pump in July. So far the left brake caliper has giving me problem. need new left brake caliper and new pads. Transmission vibrate (like runing over rumble strip) at slow acceleration between 35-50 mph.
I bought my 93 sc400 during this summer. It has 130,xxx miles now and it runs still nice. My last owner has timing belt change at 120K as well. A/C LED display, it's still fine but when it's cold I can see that it's leaking little(it turns darker). both door power door lock didn't work but I fixed the problem. power mirrors don't work ( I dont know what's the problem). Keyless entry doesn't work, I'm gonna work on this problem soon.
I dont have Powersteering pump problem yet.
front speaker not working?(gotta replace).

You guys seem to have a lot of electrical issues that seem to be going out in the 100K mileage plus range.
Actually I forgot I had an electrical problem w/my wiper in the past..but that wasn't because of normal wear..it was from the previous owners' tinkering.
I do have the left driver side door panel loose..but I can live w/it.
When do they recommend the power steering pump to be replaced?
I know that a tranny change is looming at 200K...
But as of now..I don't get the vibration that you guys are talking about...or anything like that.
Wut happens to the wheel bearings?
I had a BMW 3 series from 94 and each wheel bearing went bad at 75K...I can't believe the lexus one's haven't done that yet.
CHEAP German cars.

VQT, I took it to the dealer because I just got this car that time and needed overall body check up.
They just replaced door lock actuators...guess how much I paid for it...$900.00 inc labor.
it was ok to me because it was first time I took to the dealer, but they couldn't fix power side mirror...from that time I decided to fix myself.
go back to actuators...yea since I didn't watch what they were doing, I can't help on precedure.
I remember there is thread about door lock, let me see if I can find it.
Oh yea I have Gauge needle problem too

Hi all,
I have a 92 SC400. It's completely stock and it currently has a little over 225,200Km. I guess you guys can covert that figure to miles for yourself.
I've had the car for about two years now. I bought it with 170,000Km on it and all I've done so far was change the engine oil regularly.
The car still runs as smooth as silk, but it has a few shakes and rattles. The nuts behind the door moulding is getting loose and there is a squeak coming from the front of the dashboard (near the windscreen) when the temperature drops below 10 degrees.
Other than that (and a few cosmetic blemishes), the car is good as new.
Carib.

Surprisingly...I don't have any rattles at 140K.
I have a jump when the car down shifts from 3rd to 2nd.. but I've been able to live w/it. No one's been able to figure out why.
But the bearings, tranny, engine, everything seems to be fine.
Thanks for your post. Know anyone else who has these kinds of heavy mileage?

I own a 92 SC300 with 190,000 miles on it and it is still running flawless. The needle on the Tach. has gone out, and the door handle on the passenger side is broken. But other than that the car is and runs flawless. I plan on an engine rebuild and tranny swap in the near future for my turbo.

. I'll do it myself even it will take me a week to take the door off
About your mirrors, do both not working or just one? Someone told me to change the ECU. Just bought the ECU from Carson Toyota less than $200. Don't have time to change it yet. I'll let you know how it goes.
My SC3 was acquired from my bro-in-law at 142k-and-a-bit miles with a 'new' 34k SC3 engine replacing the original which had apparently blown. Not sure what the details of the blowing was but it apparently had very regular oil changes, etc.
Anyway, since the 'new' engine has much less wear and tear on it than the rest of the car, I will have to make a constant mental note of it when it comes to servicing, etc.
Right now, as the car stands ...
A little leather damage from sun, but mainly from neglect ...
Sender unit died a couple of weeks ago [replaced for $200] ...
Auto tranny jerks when changing from 2nd to 3rd [even at slowest possible acceleration] ...
Engine sounds rough from a cold start [almost like their is a hole in the tailpipe] and has a little difficulty starting too, but when the engine is warmed up, sounds sweet and starts very quickly ...
Aaaand, the biggest problem I seem to be having is the steering. I think perhaps it could be something along the lines of a power steering pump issue that I see has been mentioned fairly frequently when it comes to replaced parts.
The symptoms are that the car likes to follow the path of least resistance on the road, even more so when I break. Due to this, I find myself frequently correcting the steering especially with highway driving at higher speeds.
This last item is something I have to look into when I have more money in the bank as I am sure it will cost a pretty penny to fix.
Otherwise, if you go to http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/a65cd...u5e17A_Y8vblC0 ... you can see the car is in pretty good shape.
No squeaks, knocks, or any other sounds that should not otherwise be there. All electrics work fine.

About 6 weeks ago the wife and I went out for lunch on a
drizzly Saturday morning, and returned home about 4 hours
later with a black, 1993 SC300 with 130,000 miles
Besides condensation in the passenger side headlight, there
appears to be absolutely no mechanical problems. The dealer
we purchased from replaced the plugs, wires and did tune-up.
electrically, have the same problem as many others, the alarm
and door locks don't work. Have decided to go after market
since the features are better and all our other cars have those
key fobs, so its' alright with us to lose the convenience of the
key w/button.
Also, like many others, the interior seats need to be re-done,
which I am going to work on come early spring.
My mechanic says I should change the oil 3 times after only
1,000 miles since today's oil has good detergents in them
which should naturally clean out any build up which might be
found on a car with 130k.
Simply put, I love this car. Not as much as my Sebring Convertible, but one of these days I'm going to sell my
Acura Legend and buy myself an SC, so that we will have
two in our household.
Going on 45 and still crazy after all these years. MarkMaz in
Atlanta.
