brake caliper piston on GS 450h
Just wondering where is the best place to buy brake caliper pistons for the front calipers on Lexus 2008 GS 450h-Hybrid ?
I did rebuild my front end today and I have 8 pistons in total ,I did replace square O -ring and put new Dust Boots but 3 pistons got some rust close to the outer edge, and I try to clean them but was not possible .I am afraid that could be in the future damaging mu sq.O-ring inside bore.
By the way rebuilding was about 2 hours per side, about 5.2 hours including bleeding of the brakes .
Price wise rebuilding kit was about $50.00 and only one caliper cost was about $500.00 or $600.00 OEM and after market is the about same price made by Cardone. So i have decided to rebuild both front ones.
Will post some pictures soon after I got new pistons.

Have you tried using a brass wire wheel to remove that rust or even chemicals? Brass is softer then metal so it should scratch up the piston. What was your reason for rebuilding? Ive never heard of GS front calipers ever needing to get replaced. Maybe finding a good used low mileage pair, if you cant finish the rebuild. Or even taking your old piston to a machine shop and have them custom make one for you.

I did try to clean it but it was very bad penetrated by rust.
rear pistons are a bit better asyoucan c from the picture but still having issue.
Question is why Lexus didn't make recall for the front same as for the back.
On my other cars never got issue with brake caliper pistons.
Looks like I am going to give up on Lexus.i need time to build confidence level.,or go to bmw or Mercedes.

A brass wheel or 600 grit sand paper will do wonders, Those pistons dont look to bad to me, the seal o ring is what handles the sealing the side float inside the chamber.
Like I said previously this is the first time ive heard of lexus front calipers going bad, ive heard of the rears. If you dont feel comfortable with installing them buy a used set.
Lexus vs a bmw or mercedes, as far as reliability both of those do not even come close to reliability/resale value/ etc. Build quality is better interior and styling but both have many electrical problems. Goodluck

Oh god, don't even consider BMW if you're trying to aim for something more reliable. Not even close. Mercedes are great, but still nowhere near as reliable, and there's so much added, unnecessary gadgetry in them, it'll just be one headache after another.
I'd steer clear of sandpaper right off the bat. Maybe give some brake cleaner and metal polish a shot. If that doesn't help, give sand paper a go, but be sure to clean them off like crazy after. Probably would start with a super fine grit (1,000+). Good luck!

How's the swept area from the GS? I've always noticed on Asian cars pads don't tend to sweep edge to edge (the rust striping on the rotor is an indication). My wife's GM SUV has larger diameter rotors in the rear over the fronts, but not as thick, and again, not edge to edge.
Better brakes is never a bad thing, nice job!
