Hey there,
From time to time, especially on longer trips there seems to be something wrong with the hybrid system... or I am not sure if thats normal? Eventhough the battery is sufficiently charged, it seems like the car doesn't pull that much anymore and uses only the gas engine and revs higher, not using the electric boost too much. Also I had it twice that the battery showed fully charged (normally its NEVER completely full) in a very short amount of time, then almost empty within a minute or so and doesn't use electric power any more. Once I restarted the car, it was all back to normal. I don't have any fault codes or warnings... whats going on?
(oh damn, I guess this is supposed to be in the hybrid section... moderators, feel free to move it over there
sorry!)

sorry!)Nah, as far as I know the power mode just changes the throttle response curve which works fine. However, higher revs and less electric boost is the case. Just had another longer drive and no issues at all. Its just like 1 out of 10 or 15 trips I experience that. Really strange.

if the battery charge quick and the engine always on i can tell you this for sure your hybrid battery is toast, lexus will claim the software is outdate but its not, don't listen to them, keep on insiting and record video of how your car preforming and send to HQ if needed, it happened to my car 2 years ago i was so **** because they dealer refuse to acknowledge the issue i just shift the car to Neutral with heater blasting to force the battery to drain and see wassup, the car died... engine wont' kick in, throttle no response, had to turn off car and turn back on and the car refuse to start, dumb move, but it trigger a "check hybrid system" on my dash and i took pix and send to dealer again and they wer like "ok this time your battery is done, take this loaner and gave us 3 days"
please don't try this at home
please don't try this at home
Are you sure? If it would be toasted, wouldn't it be a constant problem? However, it seems to work 95% of the time... I was just wondering.
So here is the strange thing:
Brought in the car to the Lexus dealership to have a hybrid check done. They check the batteries, motors and all that stuff. It turned out that everything seems to be in healthy order and the vehicle passed all the tests. On the way home, I took it on the Autobahn and had it going at 150mph+ around 15mins straight (gas guzzler mode
) When I turned off the Autobahn and slowed down, the battery got charged up to its absolute full level (which it never does under normal circumstances). I was able to drive quite a far distance on electric only up to around 50mph (which normally it cuts out at 30-40mph, depending on the remaining charge). Then, the charge dropped to the last 2 dashes within around 30 secs. After that it took forever to get back to 3 dashes and recharging in general felt painfully long. It also looked like the battery had gone out of juice completely as the system was pulling on gas only all the time, despite having a little charge left in the battery.
So I am assuming the system will overheat after excessive speeding... it also smelled a little burnt after going so fast for a while. Now after I let the car sit for a while and took it for a short zip around town, its all back to normal. Maybe the system would overheat easier after 10 years of age... I don't know. Lets just hope it will hold up until I can afford a newer 2012+ model lol.

All the hybrid battery cooling fans are ok? Is the 12v battery in the trunk vented? I know that the original 12v battery does have a vent tube that other 12v batteries do not. If the 12v overheated it could explain the burning smell and slow charge of the traction battery. Just my thoughts on this matter.
Well, yeah I was thinking the same but I have no idea on how to check on the hybrid cooling system and where exactly it is
So therefore I had Lexus make this "Hybrid Check" where they also checked on the hybrid cooling system... which turned out no errors
Well, assuming they also checked the fan and everything...
Checked the 12V battery after the car stood overnight and it showed 13.5 volts charge so it should be alright I guess... wasn't aware that its vented as well and if that might play in here as well?

The vented issue shouldn't matter as some have been running a non vented battery with no issues. I have come to understand that 12v battery health does affect the overall performance of the hybrid system. There is a thread in the ls600h section on 12v battery health.Originally Posted by buzzed

Have you solved the problem, and how?
I have a similar problem, it happens a little differently, when I drive a car for a long time, it starts to lose power when I press it with a gas pedal, it pulls it only when it comes to 150 kw, in the first 2 seconds, as if it has 50 horsepower, very lose vuce, at that moment the battery is discharged to 1 dash and it is very hard to charge. I have to reduce the speed until it cools down and then everything goes normal. I drove him to the service, everything is fine, there is no mistake. For a year now I have this problem and nobody knows what it is.
