Default GS350 Eating thru tires....

Well, I took my 2007 GS350 to the dealership in Tucson on Thursday and was basically told that "It is NORMAL for my GS350 to have tire issues (camber wear)(as a result of what seems to be Negative Camber) when my car is in NEAR perfect alignment.. So getting 20~25K mileage out of my tires to GOOD..
I was NOT HAPPY to hear that.. So as a owner of a Lexus I can basically continue to look forward to spending $600~$1,000.00 additional every couple years to maintain my vehicle??? REALLY??
Please HELP.. Is the Lexus Service Guy Right?? Anyone

Yes, the majority of Lexus vehicle will have a bit of a negative camber but not too much to notice a lot of inner tire wear. I'm assuming the 350s have the 18" wheels. Those are low profiles tires and you're lucky if you can get 20K on them. They even have the little sticker (when new) that advise owners they are low profile tires.

Take it to an alignment specialist and have them take a look if there are some excessive wear. I think Lexus has the rear set at -3 degrees.

That's what I said to the service manager. I can get a pic and maybe post it. Today in church I spoke to a close friend of ours who was the local Toyota dealership service manager for over 15 years and is now the fleet service manager for our county vehicles here and he says the same thing...BS!! and SHAME on LEXUS.....
And BTW..that's both Front and Back

When I took my 460 in to have the mounting/balancing and alignment done after getting my new tires, the tech said that these cars are known for having odd camber/alignment issues from the factory, so he installed some shims to correct it. Got 20k on my tires, and next to no wear inside and out. Not positive as to what he did on the whole shim installing process, but hey, my tires with 20k look much better than my old tires with 16k, so it appears to have worked. I've come to find out that the Lexus techs and service writers never really have any good info on odd little issues like this. Look into a specialty/high-end alignment shop in your area and have them take a peek.

not sure I have the same issue...but the same concern. My tires are Michelin Sports A/S 3's 245/40/18 and are a 45K mile rated tires. They've been rotated every 5k on the dot, kept are correct tire pressure and I drive like a grandma, car is is alignment (not a shred of pulling/traveling, etc) and when I recently had them rotated, the shop said that I've got maybe another 5-8K miles left on them. So, if I get another 8k miles....that would put these at 33k miles total. Considering 90% of my miles are highway....I'm not too happy with getting only 33k out of a set of "good tires" (nearly $190 ea).

I know I'm not going to get 60k out of ANY lower profile "performance type" tire...but damn. I'm used to getting 70k plus from a tire on Honda's. Hell, I put 100k on a set of Bridgestone Turanza's several years back. It was an 80k mile rated tire. THAT...is getting your monies worth!

Any specific brands/models in my tire size that I should consider....to get better/longer tread life from?? I'm not concerned about cornering at 80mph or 100mph + driving performance. I rarely exceed 80 and that's only on dead flat, straight tollways.

I was told that's pretty much the expected milage out of just about any tire on the 3GS.

I was a bit surprised that my less than 3 year old, less than 21,000 mile hankook ventus v12 evos were showing steel, and i nearly had 2 blowouts on a road trip last summer. The deterioration was probably accelerated by florida's high humidity / salty atmosphere - high dry rot.

I'm a bit disappointed, too, but it appears that's about right for this car with low profile tires.

What I'm upset about is the tires I had to buy (the only thing that the local shops had so that I wouldn't be stranded for 4 days in during a move) - Falken ziex series - are apparently 'too low quality' to balance, or so I was told by my new Lexus dealer in Austin. It feels like I"m driving on a washboard all of the time, and they barely have 1000 miles on them!

toe-in also wears out tires fast. Our GS eats tires.

I got less than 30k from the factory dunlops before switching to continental DWS. Even with the DWS, it seems it's wearing a little fast.

I got 30K miles out of 2 sets OEM RFT.
Switched to Pilot Sport A/S+. Getting 35K+ miles so far. Inner tires start showing abnormal wear.
Too bad they don't make PS A/S+ anymore.
Looks like I will be giving PS A/S 3 a try on the next replacement.

I sympathize! We just took our 2020 Lexus ES350 into Discount Tire because the TPMS went off. We found out at 17,600 miles the original Michelin tires are worn down to their wear bars. I thought we were being sold a bill of goods so I checked for myself and was shocked they were correct. The tires were rotated every 5K miles on the dot. This car is my wife’s car, that practically sits on a silk pillow in the garage most the time. She’s a granny and drives like one. So we just put on Falcon 60K tires on the car. We received $165 for the warranty on the Michelin’s. I figured it was due to the crummy roads in California but the mechanic says it’s common, certain cars eat up the tires. I will certainly purchase the lifetime alignment my local dealership offers.
