Default 2008 350awd problem

My VSC and check engine light have come on. In addition now the auto trans will not shift past 4 gear with in auto or with me doing it manually. My local shop who has worked on this car before and is very good put the computer reader on it and got a P0500 for vehicle speed sensor "A". Today they put it on the real monitor and it reads a different code that says check engine code but does not reveal the code to read.
I really don't want to go to my dealer and get it hard. The car has 175,000 and until now has run great. I tried the gas cap fix to no avail. The shop did a reset when i first got there and it last 75 yards. I am in central Ohio if anyone knows a good shop.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I do not know of a shop in that area but my advice is to either pay the dealership an hour of diagnostic service to find out the exact problem using their high level scanner or find an independent shop with a dealer level scanner that can finds the root of the problem. Good luck!

By the way....you've put a lot of miles on your GS 350.....is this your first problem with the car? Have you had your transmission serviced? I always crave input from those with higher mileage cars...

Hows the charging system? I would take it to an auto parts store and have them test the power out of the alternator. At times when the alternator isnt providing enough juice. The cars computer will go hay wire. Usually auto parts dont charge to test so its free

First shop couldn't retrieve the codes. Another Lexus feature. So I ended up at the dealer. Turns out that a mouse chewed into my transmission harness. Shop repaired harness now car is fine.

Mmmmm cheese-flavored transmission harness... Mouse was probably starving to death too. Haha, glad the lex techs caught that and you're 175k strong too! Nice.

Glad you got it fixed....i tell people all the time....sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and take it to them....instead of guessing and/or driving around causing more damage.
