Default Low Oil Again?

Hey everybody, tried going through the forums and couldnt find anything helpful enough. Here goes...My 07 GS350 for the second time, gave me a low oil warning light. the car has 114k and had the cam TSB work done. The first time I had low oil was about 2,300 miles ago when my alternator started burning. Got that replaced along with a oil change, brakes, coolant flush and belt change (i know i know I got raped by the dealer). Last night driving to the gas station with car almost on E the low oil warning came on again..I always have them put 5W-30 synthetic but during my last oil change they put in 5w-20. I dont think that this would do anything however. Not due for an oil change. I spent about $1200 on the car in January to fix the previously mentiond issues. I love my GS and do not want to get rid of her. What are my options? What could be wrong? If i take it to Lexus Of New Haven here in CT they would probally try to squeeze more money out of me. Any advice would be appreciated.

Have you had all recalls done? Do you have any misfires occurring?

I know burning oil was an issue for the GS300:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...ing-oil-6.html

No drips or pools of oil under your car? garage? driveway?

My advice to do first:

1. Make sure all recalls done.

2. Add oil so the level gets back to full mark. Recheck after 1500 miles.

3. If low again, have a friend drive behind you, punch the gas and have them tell you if blue smoke appears out of exhaust.

4. If so, take it in and have a compression test done could be a piston ring issue.

It sounds like your car consumes about 1 QT of oil per 1K miles. Still within Lexus oil consumption specs.
My 2007GS350AWD consumes about half a QT per 1500 miles. No issue with idling. Doesn't feel any loss of power. I notice the car consumes more oil when
1. I drive faster than 75 mph.
2. Oil is old and dirty.
I noticed the oil consumption after the valve spring recall job when the car registered 60K miles.
Now the car has 97K miles, it still consumes the same amount.

Do the oil consumption test yourself to see how much it really consumes.

I have a GS430, not saying it's the same at all, but I don't think half quart, or 1 quart would be normal oil consumption. I think it's just within boundries before Lexus decides to put it under warranty consideration.

I lose about 1/4th of a quart to half a quart every 5000 miles.

That's correct. If the oil consumption is within Lexus specs, they are not going to do anything.

It really sucks IMO chuck.... These cars are v6's and v8's, not rotaries, they're not built to EAT oil

I'm going 10k between changes with Mobil1 5W-30. I'm at 60k, and the car has never used a drop. I check it once a month. Also, my wife's '10 RX350 is at 40k, gets oil/filter changed every 10k, using 0W-20, with the same results.

Thanks guys. Never had any misfires or anything like that. I will check for blue smoke after topping off. How much would a compression test cost?

I agree...my 08 GS350 has had the recall and I change the oil with Mobil 1 0w-30 every 5k...been using Mobil 1 5w-30 and 0w-30 since the first 5k service...the oil level has never dropped...with 61k on the odo now...

I had the same issue on my 2007 GS350 AWD. I now have an 08 GS. The low oil light would come on for 1 sec then it will go out but the oil was never low. I just thought it was because I drove at higher speeds all the time and the oil missed the sensor or something like that who knows. However my car NEVER NEVER burned oil but the light would come on once in awhile nothing major at all.

Any updates on this thread?

Anyone else had to have any engine work done for oil consumption on a 2007 or later GS350?

just throwing this out there, a small oil leak from the drivers side valve cover (which is removed during the cam gear recall) can easily destroy the alternator (which is on the drivers side) and also could cause a low oil level light.
