How long will she last?
Hey everyone. I've owned my pearl white 07 GS for two years now and love this car! But she's at 92k miles and I'm starting to worry about how long I should keep it. All factory recalls have been done and proper maintenance followed. Any longevity cars out there so I can quit worrying?!

my feeling is mechanically the car will keep on going for a long time, i don't think you will run into much trouble with the drive train at all with regular maintenance. if anything, electronics are the only things that i would worry about over time in general, like the navigation screen, the nav ecu, amplifier, etc... those stuff are not cheap to replace these days anymore given how everything is integrated together

I'm at 120K with my 07 and still drive it like it has low mileage. Like what the others said, as long as you do the regular maint it's should last a long time. I ran my 95 civic hard until I gave her to my cousin with about 250K. My 01 IS300 was shy of the 200K mark before it was totaled by some idiot. I fear the electronics would give before anything mechanically like what Rominl mentioned above.

No one has mentioned external issues like rust. How long will these cars last before exhibit any signs of rust? And where would you think would be the most vulnerable spots?...Especially for those of us "up north" where salt exposure is common in the winter.
I still have my 99 Volvo and it is virtually rust free. The only rust was on the back gate where water pooled between the window and hatch. But someone rear ended me so their insurance replaced the only rusting part of my car...which is lucky. Heard that Volvo used galvanized steel improving the rust resistance.

I kept my previous car (a Mazda) until it died, at 362k miles, with no major repairs throughout its life; I expect my Lexus to last at least that long. So if you are driving 13k a year, I would say that you are good for another 20 years on your GS.

Bought my '06 GS430 with 138K miles. Now it has 151K miles. Trouble free. Only cost is usual oil change, brakes, tires etc. Not a hiccup. I expect to keep it well past 300K miles....

It will last well past 200k miles if you take good care of it. My GS is still new, but my Dad had a 98 LS up near 200k, my old 2003 ES is still on the road (its in the family) at about 180k miles. Those cars were maintained well, but maintained well really equals following the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, washing them every week. Detailing them once a year or so.
Weak spots are suspension components, bushings, ball joints, control arms, etc. "Weak" can be a relative thing, I did control arms on the ES at around 150k.
As for rust, if you keep it clean and waxed...I wouldn't even consider rust until its 15+ years old.
92k and 8 years old its just getting started if you want to keep it.
