Default 2006 GS300 Headlight Problem

Hello Everyone,

I was hoping someone maybe able to help me out. It would appear the gremlins are attacking my poor GS at will at the moment.

I have a problem with my headlights, when I switch them on they both stay on for about 2 mins, then the drivers one turns off and will not come back on unless I turn them off/on again.

Has anyone had any experience of this? And if so how do I resolve? I was thinking of maybe changing the bulb myself but I really don't know how or what bulb to get.

Any help would be great guys.

try swapping driver with passenger bulbs first. If the driver side still shuts off after you swapped them then the ballast might be going bad

recently happened to my 2006 GS430, except it was the passenger light. I didn't bother swapping the bulbs to troubleshoot as I figured they were nearly 8 years old and due for replacement anyway. I ordered the XenonDepot 5000k bulbs and they are fantastic for the price. Great color and output. Problem went away with new bulbs.

I will try swapping the bulbs around to see if it is the bulb.
Are these things easy to get out? Is there a how to guide on here somewhere that someone can point me to?

Thx

a lot of good info in this thread, DIY Thread

heres the link in that thread for changing the headlight bulbs, HID Removal

be sure that when you order new bulbs, do not get cheap $30 bulbs as for some reason, our cars do not like them and the same issue may occur. i always recommend either going with XenonDepot like mentioned above or Garax bulbs

Did you guys replace HALOGEN bulbs with the XenonDepot bulbs? If so, were they just plug-and-play or did you need anything else???

I did get cheap $30 bulbs and learn the lesson the hard way. They were good for only 2 months and began to randomly turn off on the road. I had to manually turn the head light switch off and back on to get them re-ignited, only to see them turn off at their random will again.

There are OEM Philips bulbs on eBay. I then ordered mine under this item number 161097948642. The bulbs are identical in appearance in every way to the factory bulbs I removed. They have been in my car for 3 months and never have missed a beat since.

just be careful when doing that as some are very good knock-offs. i would recommend going through a reputable vendor when ordering those bulbs

They aren't halogens, they are D4S HID bulbs.

http://www.kbcarstuff.com/D4S-XenonD...b-p/xt-d4s.htm

are the exact ones I ordered and yes, they are a direct replacement for the factory low beams.

The high beams are halogen and take a 9005 bulb.

Agreed.

Have another set on hand when they fail again... I think you just got lucky for the time being and very soon it should mess up again.

Either way GL to you!

Well you was right guys!!! Came out early this morning drove to work and when I got there the drivers side bulb was out. The good news is that the fault went across with the bulb so I know a new set will fix the problem.

I am gonna pick some up soon. Anyone have ideas on which are the best replacement bulbs?

im a big fan of garax bulbs. good price for the quality you get. just be sure you dont cheap out and get some $25 bulbs as more than likely you will have the same issue again a month from now
