My vehicle is a 2011 GS-350. I bought it used and it came with only one key fob. I see used fob for sale at places like eBay for around $60. If I purchased one of these, how much would the dealer charge to reprogram the fob to match my car? I live in the Plano, TX area.

I recommend calling up a locksmith or someone else instead of the dealership because they are only going to rob you. Some dealers might charge a fortune, but others might do it for free. It all depends on them.

 

If it's a used key, you have to do a reseed. Sewell Lexus in Fort Worth charges 1 hour labor (I think it's about $140-$1600) for a reseed. If it's a new key, it's cheaper to program and you might be able to do it yourself if you have techstream.

 

I've seen "new" keys on eBay for 40-60 bux. I'm in the same boat as the op, since my gs only came with 1 key. I'm probably going to order one this week and see if all goes well with assigning it to my car through techstream. If it goes well, I'll chime back in with the sellers info if you want.

Was curious if you were able to program a new key fob using tech stream? I bought a new key fob and key from the Lexus dealer. they wanted 140 to program the new fob. If I can use tech stream, then I would rather go that route if it is possible. Thanks

 

New keys are easy with Techstream. It will hold your hand through the whole process. Just added a credit card key to an LS with my $30 Techstream cable, no more ripoff dealer labor fees.

As others have noted, a USED key isn't worth it even if you can get it for less. Get a new key.

 

Find someone local. I had someone in my area (Bay Area, CA) do it for $135 including a "used" key.

 

So the 30 tech stream cable comes with the software you need? I thought that tech stream was really expensive software?

 

Most of them come with the software yes.
