Default GS300 issues

Hey guys,
New to the forum... I had a couple of questions about a 2006 Lexus GS300.

My mother owns this car. She is looking to get a new car and the dealers are only offering between 9500-12k for a trade in. It only has 70,000 in miles (very low). An idea struck me... Why not sell it to me for whatever the dealer is offering? I own a 2001 Ford Expedition as a daily and my fun car is my 2007 GT500... I need a new daily as my truck is starting to fall apart.

The reason I came here is because her GS300 has 3 issues and being this thing is one massive computer... I figured I'd ask you about them and make sure I wasn't getting in over my head in case the repair costs would be substantial.

1st issue: When sitting in the front passenger seat or either back seat with a window, the window goes down fine when using that switch. When sitting in the drivers seat, the only window the driver can put down is the drivers window. The passenger front/rear and drivers rear does not work. Is this a known issue? Any idea how to resolve?

2nd issue: When listening to music, regardless of output (xm, fm, cd, etc), audio is only coming out of the passenger side of the car. There is nothing coming out of any speaker on the drivers side. Possible amp issue?

3rd issue: When trying to operate the moonroof, nothing is done automatically. My mother tells me she used to hit open, and the moonroof would open automatically, same with closing. Now, you have to hold the button down manually to get it to the location you want and have to play with the button to get it to shut properly.

Let me know if you guys have any insight on these issues. I really appreciate it.

Nick

at some point the battery was disconnected. go to each window and roll them down and then back up. should fix the issue for the drivers seat

Window and Moonroof Reset

possible that the speakers are blown or for some odd reason the fade for the radio is set all the way to the right?

IXI hit the hammer right on the topic.... on your windows and moonroof, at some point your battery was replaced/system was reset. Follow his guide to fix your automatic moonroof and window problems.

Someone was probably playing with your audio controls and set the fade all the way to the right side... You said only passenger side is playing, so I'm guessing it's the front and rear of the driver side that is off. SOMETIMES, there are chances your driver side outputs have gone bad.... I highly doubt it though, simply because the OEM amplifier is built for the OEM speakers, meaning they're built to spec and shouldn't ever blow (unless your speakers' coils have gone bad and blew out both channels).

I checked the fade and balance, they are in their normal spots. I don't think the speakers are blown. She does not have the navigation setup. The speakers, i don't believe, make any sort of noise. Maybe if I turn them up really high I can hear a buzzing sound.

Is there an amp in these cars? If so, where is it located? maybe i can swap the outputs on it to see if the passenger side will stop working and vice versa...

I been reading a few posts on here about the 2006 GS300. Should I stay away from this car? I know it just had some major work done to the engine covered under the warranty. I will find out exactly what the problem was and let you know

I wouldn't say steer completely away from it, your car has a recall that calls for a engine rehaul after it consumes x amount of oil....

The amplifier is located in the rear passenger side. PM me if you want the diagram for the audio outputs with your car. You can use a bare paper clip to run a bridge between the positives and negatives.

Also, you can swap the left and right speakers in the front and rear to verify your speakers aren't blown. Door panels are not hard to remove at all.

Good old battery disconnected/drained, must be the #1 thing people come here and ask about. Should be a message on the dash when this happens giving people a clue.

My mother is looking again at a new car and didnt sell me this last year. The car now has about 78k on the dial. Still having the radio issue where only the passenger side speakers work. None of the drivers side work. Any one know of something to check?

Being that this car had its engine rebuild, would it be practical for me to purchase this from her with 78k miles at the price the dealer gives her for trade in? I want to get at least another 40k out of it in miles.

Speaker: Make sure the settings are set to both sides of the car. I would recommend taking it in to a dealership if that's not the case. And while you are there, get the car appraised. I'd buy from her. You will get a lot more that 40k out of her trust me.

That car is probably good for another 150k with regular upkeep at this point. Buying it for "what the dealer offers" is tricky, though, because knowing the true value the dealer is putting on it can be tough. They bury money off the new one in trade allowance, etc. Is her car AWD? What kind of new car is she looking at?

yea 78k is nothing for these cars. you can easily get another 100k. i say buy it. you know the history of the car and what has been and needs to be fixed.
