At minimum replace both rear. Just remember, You should always do brakes and suspension in pairs.
If you have the funds, I would even out the whole car by doing all four struts.
This is also a good time to consider replacing springs if you are looking to lower the car , enhance handling performance or looks, since the mechanic will be in there and taking it apart. This Will save you labor in the long run.
If you are even looking to do more, go the next step and get coil-overs or air suspension.
thanks for the info. I am just planning to keep it stock for now. I was browsing and it seems that people recommend KYB struts, do you know anything about them?
yeah just had the same news after my 72k service 'slight misting on n/s rear shock' said the same thing on last years service too
I'm switching mine after new year, be interested to see how you get on. I got the service manual off ebay on how to switch them out and it doesn't look too bad a job. The only tricky part in my eyes is getting the angles right.
Stick with Lexus OEM shocks. Do not buy KBY gas adjust. I bought the KYB for my GS300 and they were bouncing all over even after a year. I could not fed up with the KYB and shelled out another $700 for Lexus shocks. It's like back into a new car again. Unfortunately, my car got totaled due to an accident after I put my new shocks on. I'm now driving Acura MDX..It's the beast!
PS: I paid around $400 for the KYB set from usautoparts. I still have the KYB set in my garage, if you are interesting in them, $150 shipped to your place. Thanks
Just don't get the KYB GR-2. They are not as good as the Gas-A-Just for the 3GS. I don't know if they even make the GR-2 for the 3GS... just wanted to make sure you didn't make a big mistake.
