08 GS 350...experience this issue on a mildly windy day...kinda weird that lexus steering isn't very solid feeling...Anyone else's steering wheel off center and pulling to a left/right direction?
I don't have any pulling misaligned steering wheel or alignment issues. Just what I would consider a very strange notchy, sticky, somewhat unstable steering feel..
On windy days or passing a semi-truck the car is very demanding (somewhat dangerous) and tiresome to drive. This steering "rack" issue should have been a recall for all affected years/model Lexus cars (Not a TSB). Not to mention, the TSB references AWD vehicles only yet its blatantly obvious that the RWD models have the exact same rack problems.
don't think my steering is notching, etc. but if i'm slowing down and drive over an even piece of road, the car will pull hard to the right, but this is only if i'm slowing down while braking, coming to a stop. I'll have to double check when the alignment was last done since I have the service records, was serviced at Tustin Lexus in OC. the tires are good, no uneven wear. but this car has to much swaying. Installing my f-sport sway bars this weekend.
would my extended warranty cover the EPS if lexus found it to be bad?
Were you right next to a Semi-truck or just passing one when you encountered that feeling?
All of the above - or coming up behind and/or all by myself on the road during windy conditions.
It's like if the wind pushes on the right side of the car the rack thinks the driver is inputting a left turn thus steers left. I then correct yet it's a constant battle back and forth going down the road. Coming up behind or overtaking a semi its "jet wash" will bounce the GS back and forth which is normal yet the steering reacts to each bounce and you have to fight it to keep it going down the road in a relatively straight fashion.. The car literally reminds me of an old farm truck I use to hall trash to the dump with where you could turn the wheel a qtr turn either direction prior to the truck actually responding to a steering wheel input... :-)
Bottom line, I'm a prior dealership tech and I am having a tendency to rant about this bit of Lexus "pursuit of perfection".. No doubt in my mind the rack and pinion in this car was poorly designed and or poorly dampened (probably the reason for a change in part #). Add that to the already known TSB notchy issue and overall "worn-out" driving feel and it makes for my primary dislike of this car.
I plan to take mine in next week for this issue and would love if Lexus would split the cost of repair if not own up to it all.
i felt my car steering wheel will pull my hands left or right when driving on uneven road.. people say this is normal because we all have wider tire and they tend to follow every imperfection on the road. other than that, crosswind is not a really big issue for me

it might be the EPS, as my svt lightning doesn't due this and it has 295/45/18 tires.

Yes, I know exactly what you are describing both on uneven surfaces and during braking. That is definitely not the issue I am having. And believe it or not my GS doesn't do that but my previous cars, where I widened tire fitment, definitely did. My GS is all stock, rims and tire size etc..
As mentioned, its currently my vehicle rant and I just need to get it fixed and forget about it. I'm just posting to vent and let others know if they are experiencing the same it's "not normal" regardless of hydraulic or electronic assisted power steering.. :-)
With what you have described Brabus, I too would call that pretty normal if wheel/tire specs have been altered from OEM.

You're looking at a $2K+ repair bill.
Always good to bring it in to the dealer and see if they can duplicate the issue...if ur under warranty then it should be good to go...only thing is getting them to recognize the issue...that's half the battle...lol
I had taken my 07GS350 to Hennessy Lexus in Atlanta on two different occasions with complaints about the "mushy" feeling while driving on the highways. In both cases, they said that they couldn't see anything wrong. Its getting worse so I took it to a shop that has former Lexus and Toyota techs in it and the guys told me immediately what it was. EPS and gave me special service code that Lexus should review. SSC 9LC addresses teh eps concerns.
I called Lexus and the service tech said that there ARE NOT ANY BULLETINS, RECALLS or notices for this vehicle that addresses what I was describing to him. He then began to say that who are you going to believe a shop of the Lexus dealership. I said, well!! They gave me this code you should look up........SSC 9LC. He then changed his tune and was like...........o there is something out here for it. He then proceeded to read the notice and kept making sounds like........."ooo" and "ouch". I asked ..whats the deal?? He said that this is not a recall, you car is not covered with any warranty and cost looks to be about $2,800. I just laughed at him and asked for the Lexus Care toll free number.
