All seems to be fine now. I drove on the same highway, at the same speed where I first had the issue and no drifting. The only variable was that there were no trucks in the vicinity.
My daily drive requires about 20 miles on a highway where many semi's are encountered, I have not had any issues since the alignment. Will let you guys know if the issue occurs again.
DTD80 fell free to update this thread with your results.
I'm wondering if what you experienced in a cross-wind or gusty condition, at 80 MPH, is the VDIM system making alignment corrections. I know the system does try to override a sudden drift due to wind or gust.
Sorry for the late update. Alignment didn't do much. I still get a notchy dead spot making a sweeping right turn. The car does have issues tracking straight. From research, it seems as if my rack needs to be replaced.
Dtd80,
Thanks for sharing and please let us know how you proceed, outcome and cost. I'll be traveling this same road this spring/summer. My 2007 GS RWD has the same symptoms.
I just purchased a rebuilt one. So far, cost incurred is $550. Labor will be done by me and my brother works at a service shop so alignment will be done at no charge. If anything else comes up, I will be sure to post.
So far, its done. My brother had to stab the rack a couple of times at work because it wasn't centered. I would highly suggest getting a can of paint(bright yellow or similar) and paint the joint where it connects to the rack. That way, you will be very close to the original.
On the road, the car doesn't wiggle around on uneven pavement anymore. The notchy steering is gone. Hopefully, it stays that way for a long time. I will keep my original to get it rebuilt when funds become available to have a backup. Another thing to note, the steering feel is a bit lighter on turning. Now I need to get new tires and hopefully that will be the end of expensive repairs/maintenance for a while.
Will be targeting the sunroof rattle, dash rattle, rear dash rattle, and broken door panel after this semester ends but that's a whole other story.

Glad to hear the rack might be the final fix. What company/brand of rebuilt did you go with - where from etc.?
08 GS 350...experience this issue on a mildly windy day...kinda weird that lexus steering isn't very solid feeling...Anyone else's steering wheel off center and pulling to a left/right direction?
