As the title says, I was having problems with my side view mirror when reversing it would go down slightly and stop, found that odd then I decided to move it myself further down to see the curb when I put it in drive I figured I would need to re-adjust the side mirror it went back on its own. Took it for service and they said that the actuator was broken and was replaced under the warranty. Just thought I would share this info with others as I know some have had this problem.
Got the right side replaced not too long ago under warranty. Left side is acting funny now, time to replace that one.
Same here. Got the passenger side (whole assembly) replaced two years ago under basic waranty. The driver side (actuator only) was replaced 2 weeks ago under EW. Bill to Lexus $413 (one hour labor included). Probably cost more if I don't have EW.
Brake squealing noise is another weak point for the GS.
Ya i had that problem for a long time. I never thought about taking it to the dealership because I was afraid of the arm and leg they might charge me. I didn't even consider the warranty because I think at the time someone posted it cost them a ridiculous amount so I just never have it auto tilt anymore.
does anyone have pictures of the actuator or gear that are broken/breaking? If it's a gear issue, new gears can be built. Ford has issues with the 90's odometer worm gear. A couple of companies now offer replacements for < $20 vs the $XXX that Ford wants to replace the whole mechanism. Maybe we can do the same on the mirrors. 3D modeling and fabrication is inexpensive enough that if it's the gears giving out, we ought to be able to come up with a solution that cheaper and more reliable than replacing the entire mirror.
